Children's rights activist faces defamation trial in Guatemala

Adoptions remain a significant activity in Guatemala. According to Casa Alianza, 2,993 Guatemalan children were adopted by foreigners last year, producing almost US$90 million in fees and expenses.

Global human rights groups such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights have expressed concern about the trial.
