Ohio Poised to Enact Sweeping Same-Sex Marriage Ban

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The Ohio Senate has approved one of the most far-reaching gay marriage bans in the nation despite charges from some lawmakers that the legislation was mean-spirited and discriminatory.
A divided Senate approved the bill 18-15 Wednesday and sent it back to the House, which is expected to approve minor changes next week. Gov. Bob Taft has said he will sign the bill.

The rightwing assault on gay people begins as they try to scapegoat a minority group, appealling to base and hateful emotions to claw their way back into power. Sound familiar? This Country is fast becoming a corporate theocracy and ought to be ashamed of itself. I never really gave it serious consideration, but if this shitstorm continues and the People allow it I'm getting the hell outta here.

Who'd have thought this kind of tripe would come from Republicans, promoters of marriage for welfare mothers (so long as they're straight, I guess) and staunch defenders of "freedom".

4. This is needed to produce a legal challenge

A law such as this would provide the legal challenge and precident that will ultimately open the door for legally recognized unions of same sex partners.

It is sad that it will come down to this but as I have said before. As the GOP finds itself losing this year they will divide the nation with major opposition to legal same sex unions.
