Lt. Gen. James Helmly said changes are needed to prevent a "crisis" in ret
Seeking to avert an exodus of part-time soldiers, the chief of the U.S. Army Reserve on Tuesday faulted the Army's treatment of reservists and proposed to give them a firmer notion of when they may be plucked from civilian life for active duty.
-snip-
Lt. Gen. James Helmly said changes are needed to prevent a "crisis" in retaining these soldiers in the all-volunteer U.S. military. There is concern within the Army that thousands of reservists will leave the military as soon as they are given the chance, undermining U.S. defense readiness.

"We have not, in the Army Reserve, applied the positive leadership necessary both in terms of how we treat people but also in our personnel practices and procedures to entice them to feel wanted, respected, admired," Helmly told reporters at the Pentagon.

Helmly said the Army Reserve needs to get the message across to reserve soldiers that "we value your service and we're not going to run this like a doggone flesh farm."

His Chimperial Highness likes to pretend that he has the adoration of the military, but the FACT is that it is deeply divided about him, and in fact, there are strong factions at all levels of the military which oppose the sorry little coward.

The Iraqi occupation is a disgrace, from initiation to quagmire. Even as he praies them for their service with a tear in his eye, he cuts their pay and makes it harder on their family. He has sent them into difficult desert conditions and urban warfare without proper provisions and working weapons or proper armor. And he is exploiting the National Reserve like slaves. OUTRAGE!

Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 08:26 PM by rchsod
are going to vote for bush? even before the war i felt that there were people inside the command structure that realized bush and his team were mad if they thought we could win this war. they know bush was a coward and that cheney, rummy and his group traded with saddam even during the embargo.after the war college`s shredding of bush`s war and last nights pictures of our troops it seems obvious that bush has lost the respect of the professionals in our military. remember they are our troops-they protect the people of the united states, they are not to be used as a personal army of george bush.
whether or not you like kerry or clark they are the men to bring the boyking to his knees
