Passports probe focuses on worker: Contract worker with firm headed by Obama campaign adviser
Source: Washington Times

By Bill Gertz and Jon Ward
March 22, 2008

The State Department investigation of improper computer access to passport records of three presidential candidates is focusing on one remaining employee — a contract worker with a company headed by an adviser to the presidential campaign of Sen. Barack Obama

The probe by State's inspector general will include polygraph tests for supervisors in the passport section to find out whether the three contract employees who accessed the records had a political motive or were part of a political operation to obtain personal data on Mr. Obama, Sen. John McCain or Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Two of the three contract employees had been fired before The Washington Times first reported Thursday on security breaches involving Mr. Obama's passport records. The furor expanded yesterday to incidents involving the passport records of Mr. McCain and Mrs. Clinton.

The third employee, who has not been fired, worked for The Analysis Corporation (TAC), which is headed by John O. Brennan, a former CIA agent who is an adviser to Mr. Obama's presidential campaign on intelligence and foreign policy.

The TAC employee is the only individual to have accessed both Mr. Obama's and Mr. McCain's passport information without proper authorization, a State Department spokesman said. That employee, who was not named, triggered an electronic alarm system, officials familiar with the probe said....

3. VERY slick.
Note how the article tries to isolate the contractor that is run by an Obama advisor, and has nothing to say about the other contractor, Stanley, which not only screwed up TWICE, but is run by Republican donors.

But then again, consider the source.

7. so the person was assessing the information for who?
Edited on Sat Mar-22-08 03:17 PM by madrchsod
so barack`s guy`s firm was digging up dirt on barack...interesting is`t it. so what was barack`s guy going to do with this information-use it against barack? as for johnny boy, i could assume that barack`s guy was going to use the information against johnny boy but why? since no one knows yet just what was accessed and how much information was actually taken then i`d say this issue has enough characters to fill i cheap spy novel.

when the washington times is the source for anything one has to assume it`s written in the most favorable light for their candidate of choice.

They want to find out what dirt the opposing campaign might be able to find. Of course at this point we don't know what was going on but I bet passportgate dies a quiet death.

10. Statement from The Analysis Corporation
March 21, 2008

Late this morning, representatives of the Department of State informed The Analysis Corporation (TAC) for the first time that one of the individuals who had been detected inappropriately accessing passport files of prominent political figures was a TAC employee. The individual was working on contract at the Department of State.

This individual's actions were taken without the knowledge or direction of anyone at TAC and are wholly inconsistent with our professional and ethical standards.

TAC has an exemplary record of supporting the Department of State and other elements of the U.S. Government for close to two decades. We are fully cooperating with the Department of State in its investigation. Specifically, we have honored the Department's request to delay taking any administrative action related to the employment of the individual in order to give the Department's Office of the Inspector General the opportunity to conduct its investigation.

We deeply regret that the incident occurred and believe it is an isolated incident.

20. Interesting...
Since ATC "... honored the Department's request to delay taking any administrative action related to the employment of the individual in order to give the Department's Office of the Inspector General the opportunity to conduct its investigation."

The question should be:
WHY the two employees (from other contractor/s) are already FIRED and no longer available?

i really doubt there was any conspiracy behind any of the breaches, just overly curious employees. and not very bright employees at that, they must have been told that such inquiries would be monitored.

Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly looking at the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign, a source said Saturday.

Analysis Corp. President John Brennan, shown here in 2004, advises Barack Obama, a source tells CNN.

John O. Brennan, president and CEO of the Analysis Corp., advises the Illinois Democrat on foreign policy and intelligence issues, the source said.

Brennan briefed the media on behalf of the campaign this month.

The executive is a former senior CIA official and former interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

He contributed $2,300 to the Obama campaign in January.

When asked about the contribution, a State Department official told CNN's Zain Verjee, "We ethically awarded contracts. Political affiliation is not one of the factors that we check."

:sarcasm:

Or maybe like any tabloid journalist, he ran the HEADLINE, and then made a quiet retraction 5 days later on page 29. The damage is done and Olbermann should have to file with the FEC for exceeding his campaign contribution limit.
