Dealer arrested in Jesus relic forgery

JERUSALEM (AP)

Police have arrested an Israeli antiquities dealer suspected of creating two forgeries that shook the religious and archaeological world, including a burial box purported to be that of Jesus's brother James.

Oded Golan also is suspected in connection with a shoebox-sized tablet inscribed with forged instructions for caring for the Jewish Temple.

Golan appeared in a Jerusalem court Tuesday, one day after police arrested him at his home in Tel Aviv on suspicion of forging and dealing in fake antiquities. ---

3. Shroud of Turin?

Has this guy ever been near the Shroud of Turin? Guys like this wouldn't be able to perpetuate their forgeries if there weren't gullible true believers out there trying to authenticate their particular way of interpreting scripture. What about all of those other "relics" in churches all over the world that are used to generate donations? How is what this guy is doing different? One is "blessed" by the church, the other isn't. People are getting "ripped off" in both situations.
