Rice worried about Latam terrorism
Source: Reuters

BRASILIA (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Thursday the United States is worried about terrorism in Latin America but declined comment on the chances Venezuela might be put on a U.S. terrorism blacklist.

In what appeared to be a veiled allusion to Venezuela's anti-American President Hugo Chavez, Rice also told reporters that Washington had no "permanent enemies" in the region.

Questions about Venezuela's links to Colombia's FARC guerrilla group -- which Washington classifies as a terrorist organization -- were raised after a March 1 raid by Colombian forces inside Ecuador that killed a FARC leader, Raul Reyes.

The Colombian government seized several computers in the attack and said they yielded data that proved leftist-led Ecuador and Venezuela were aiding the FARC.

1. Uribe's got death squads & mass graves. Chavez doesn't.
Where's Juan Forero, Larry Rohter & Simon Romero from the NYTimes' Latin America bureau? They write twice-weekly hit-pieces on Chavez, but ZERO on Colombia's blood-splatter king, U.S.-ally Alvaro Uribe.

Imagine if Chavez had MASS GRAVES & DEATH SQUADS. Don't you think we'd hear about it? Until we were f**king sick of it?

Imagine if Chavez violated neighboring nations' borders, like Colombia two weeks ago. Don't you think we'd be hearing it 24/7? Or more like 29/7?

What will it take for U.S. citizens to be FED UP with the U.S. media?

3. Hugo, Evo and the gang must be weeping.
Everyone knows that Condi's political savvy is seconded only by her taste in footwear, tailored suits and unattainable boyfriends.

4. She Ain't Getting Any (Chance to Terrorize Latin America)!
And that's all the Bush/Cheney Co whining is about: not getting to throw the weight around south of the border. Even Mexico is keeping an arm's length. Not that anyone could blame them.

5. The evil passive tense strikes again!
"Questions about Venezuela's links to Colombia's FARC guerrilla group -- which Washington classifies as a terrorist organization -- were raised after a March 1 raid by Colombian forces inside Ecuador that killed a FARC leader, Raul Reyes." - Reuters (now as bad as AP)

Questions "were raised." This passive construction--signature of bad writers, red flag for motives of deception and disinformation--permits the writer to omit the human agent who "raised" the questions, and, thus to foreclose any questions about that human being's motives and credibility. It's as if God had "raised" the questions--or some other presumably objective source. Not Alvaro Uribe, the go-to guy for the Medellin Cartel in his early career, and bus boy to the Bush Cartel now. This treacherous little fascist worm, whose buds chainsaw union leaders and throw their body parts into mass graves. That is who "raised" the "questions" about Venezuela's "links" to FARC--a man whose credibility is about as good as Donald Rumsfeld's, Dick Cheney's and Colin Powell's...

The passive construction further permits the writer to avoid characterizing the evidence that the "raised questions" were based upon. To illustrate: Questions "were raised" about Iraq's purchase of uranium in Niger. And guess what? The "questions' were based on forgeries! They were bullshit. The evidence was cooked.

Reuters would get an "F" in my English class. There is no greater violation of the integrity of the English language than using the passive tense to cover up the active agent of a deed, and to bury the facts of a situation in murky obscurity.
