Bush says if younger, he would work in Afghanistan
Source: Reuters - YAHOO! News

U.S. President George W. Bush got an earful on Thursday about problems and progress in Afghanistan where a war has dragged on for more than six years but been largely eclipsed by Iraq.

"I must say, I'm a little envious," Bush said. "If I were slightly younger and not employed here, I think it would be a fantastic experience to be on the front lines of helping this young democracy succeed."

"It must be exciting for you ... in some ways romantic, in some ways, you know, confronting danger. You're really making history, and thanks," Bush said.

83. Thanks!
A couple of things-

for my feeling, "fool" is too harmless a word, and in a way it has some almost positive connotations-like a court jester as fool or the "fool on the hill".

Also, fool is not an adjective! I suppose you could write it "Fool, Mental Jackass", but this seems somehow redundant.

Foul is a much stronger word, and accurately characterizes felonious monkey's putrid, rotten, stinking nature.

19. Sounds like what they told my brother when he was in Korea.
The Pueblo incident was about to cause an international incident near the border of North and South Korea. They gave him a gun and said run like hell South.

Now that's good military planning? Sounds like a Bush general was in charge at that time.

Well then if he's the new forty, he's just turned over a new leaf, stopped drinking & blow. He rides his bike, he's in good shape - jeebus Jimmy Carter still volunteers for Habitat - dick wad could volunteer for the Peace Corp(didn't Jimmy's mom do that in her 70's?) and go to Afghanistan, start cleaning up the first mess he made. I know it's not cruising around Maine fishing w/ poppy or scooting around golf courses. But for the love of god, man - finally do something constructive w/ your miserable, empty, slacker, trust fund life.

47. It's easy to romanticize war...
from a safe distance.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

Couldn't 'they' just change his date on his birth certificate to like 28 years old...

March his scrawny a** down to the recruiting office and quick
start him to the front lines in Afghanistan.

Works for me.

North State Soldier Dies in Afghanistan
Wednesday Mar 12, 2008
Printable version Email story

A North State paratrooper died while serving in Afghanistan.

The US Army says Sgt. Gabriel Guzman, 25, died Saturday after his patrol vehicle was hit by a bomb. Guzman was from the Siskiyou County community of Hornbrook.

He was serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and had previously served a year in Iraq. Governor Schwarzenegger released a statement concerning Guzman:

Maria and I join all Californians in honoring Sgt. Gabriel Guzman for his courage, selflessness, and unrelenting devotion to this country. His loss is a tribute to the extraordinary patriotism and commitment displayed our men and women in uniform.

Guzman is survived by a daughter who lives in Baypoint and his parents who live in Mt. Shasta.

72. Hell's Bells, Douglas MacArthur was over 70 when he led the Inchon Landing!
Teddy Roosevelt hobbled onto Utah Beach on D-Day with a cane at nearly 60 and with a heart condition. . . Hyman Rickover was over 80 when he retired from the Navy. . .

76. I'mguessing that you would work in Afghanistan
by working clearing brush in Crawford. Just like you worked in Vietnam by flying planes in Texas.

78. Hiding behind thousands of SS men, armored vehicles, clearing city freeways to drive to airports
and never going near the public... is that romantic for you, georgie? Is it exciting and romantic to be "confronting danger?"

You avoided Vietnam by going awol in America. And you'd go to Afghanistan if you were "younger?" Do you ever wonder if this completely disingenuous bullshit gets noticed by veterans who are boiling over inside at your demonic diarrhea of the mouth?

81. I am blown out by this.
For years, I thought he was evil, banal, cruel and incompetent. He is not. He is mad. He is really mad, not "he is nuts" like we always post sort of stuff. This shows such a complete disconnect with any moral and ethical reality.

This is said by a person who has been to the VA hospitals, who has spoken to the parents, the husbands, the wives, the brothers and sisters of those who have died or been maimed. There is no recognition that it was his decision that lead to so much death and harm for Americans and Iraqis. I am trying to picture any world leader saying something like this. I could understand (and despise) that kind of language being used at the run up to or the beginning days of a war. Jingoistic, Kiplingesque propaganda and all. It was the kind of language used by the British going into World War I. But to say it and mean it and believe it six years into a war is beyond all understanding.

These statements, for me, are the clearest indication that he must be removed from office immediately. I would actually feel safer were he merely a lying, thieving hypocrite who was humanly evil.

84. Baloney. When he was younger, he never worked.
I credit him with showing up for many Air Reserve drills, and with actually learning to fly, which is not without risk. That seems to be the full extent of the "work" he's done in his life.

The old saying in football (and I think it's in Texas) is, what could have happened, did.

94. Spoken like a true "patriot" who's never been to war, to begin with, and hasn't a frickin' clue.
george, by all means enlist. Try it. They can use a few extra hands (especially as theirs risk being blown off).

The closest this arrogant prick ever got to war was making out with somebody else's girlfriend in the back row at some John Wayne movie.
