Gen. Franks predicts Saddam capture within 60 days
GROTON, Conn. -- Gen. Tommy Franks, who commanded U.S. forces in the war with Iraq, predicts Saddam Hussein will be found within 60 days, and says the U.S. military will be in Iraq for the long haul.

Speaking Wednesday at a conference on children in military families, Franks said Iraqi hatred of Saddam led to tips about where his two sons were hiding. The sons, Odai and Qusai, were killed Tuesday in a shootout with American forces.

"If Saddam is alive, they will turn him in as well," said Franks. "I'll even put a timeline on it. I suspect within 60 days Saddam will be confirmed dead or he'll be in custody."

1. "I'll even put a timeline on it..."
Oh good I guess. This either means, * will no longer have a distraction when the next thing to embarass him rolls out on the news -or- something is scheduled to happen in 60 days which will embarass * and require a distraction.

2. Iraqi hatred?
Surely the $30 million given to the informant had something to do with it? Else why is the informant in hiding and unable ever to return to Iraq?

29. Frank's has a card or 2 missing from HIS DECK
What a moron with the following quote

Franks said "Iraqi hatred of Saddam led to tips about where his two sons were hiding."

No IDIOT 20 or 30 Million dollars had a big effect on loosening the tongues.

5. My prediction
I may be going out on a limb here :), but if Saddam is found, it'll give the Bushies a boost. But the killings of the troops will continue, and the resulting deflation of hope will make things even worse for the chickenhawks.

How about a timeline on the one who actually attacked the U.S.?

7. Sadaam is not being hid by religious zealots, like Osmam,
so he will be found. The money is a great incentive. I predict Franks will be right. Most people don't want their relatives living in their house for more than a week or two, who would want a dictator in hiding for over 2 months?

8. So if they don't it's clearly a failure of the new command, right?
Because Franks could have done it! He said so. :eyes:

in a blaze of glory, thus earning the respect of his enemys for dying like a man...so who is the better man- one who may face death hides and lets others die in his place or one who when the time comes, faces his enemy and his death like a man?

15. putting on my tinfoil...
Could it be that they already know where Saddam is, and that they are monitoring him and waiting for the "opportune" moment (another screw-up by the * mis-Administration, maybe) to trot him out and distract the media?

21. or it could be.......
Saddam and sons are out of the country, they cut a deal, around day #12 of the war, as Iraqi military laid down their arms, and Rummy cryptically said to noone in particular "there will be no deal"....Russian protectorate likely.

Claiming they killed them, would just close the file on the case....when they really need a distraction, they might announce they have "killed Saddam, but we only have a badly mangled charred body"

Those photos are not convincing at all.

24. I'm not much for the tinfoil, but I think this is a possibility.
It's a pretty bold prediction to be making unless he knows something. Notice he gave himself an out -- 'or confirmed dead.'

18. So this is what it comes down to!?
An action movie. B (for exportation)series.
This statement is so devoid of any intelligence (the real kind) that it would almost be reassuring if it had been made as a PR move. The alternate explanation is that the general is a short-sighted, uneducated, arrogant and inattentive idiot.

19. He's Probably Right On
I assumed at the beginning that Saddam cut a deal to be allowed to scoot out of Iraq. Suddenly, having Saddam show up dead is a political necessity. Deal over.

22. And that would make as much difference in my life
as killing Saddam's sons did: NONE.

When I think of the good that all of these millions of dollars, and all of this effort and energy, could do for this country, it makes me weep.

Laid off since March 2002 here. My state (Michigan) is bleeding red ink. My son's school is suffering from lack of funding. We're rolling coins to buy gasoline and groceries. Killing more people doesn't help me. Sorry.
