Democrats Plan Fence-Mending Session
In an effort to unify a party divided by a hard-fought presidential primary campaign, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee said Saturday that he would bring together the party's presidential candidates and former presidents at a dinner in March.

The chairman, Terry McAuliffe, said that former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter had accepted and that he expected to have all 10 candidates who have run for the party's 2004 nomination at the dinner, which is set for March 25 in Washington.

Mr. McAuliffe said he was announcing the plan just before the Iowa caucuses as a signal that the party would eventually unite. He said he was confident a nominee would emerge by late March.

1. Good move
But McAuliffe is still a boob who has done far more damage to the party than this one meeting can repair.

3. Amen
I won't give a penny to the DNC until this schmuck is gone. Well, it'll take more than that, but I am dumbfounded that this guy is still in his position after the past disasters under his tenure. He truly has no self respect.

2. Damn Right the Party is Pissed!
And I don't think anything Mr. McCauliffe can do to mend it except guarantee political careers in the Democratic Party.

I think the constituents of the Democratic Party should think very carefully about their party leadership over the last few years, and consider the possibilities of a new party.

4. Too little, too late!
The Osama/Dean ad took the cake! Al From's diatribes against the liberal base was salt in the wounds. The Democratic party's failure to go kamikaze on Bush is also another black mark.

Our votes are not transferrable!

13. Do you think that people that want the School of the Americas shut down
will vote for the nominee if he is Wes Clark?

Do you think that people that oppose the war in Iraq, and think that Bush committed war crimes in his pursuit of it (together with all those that enabled the war, such as the pro-IWR vote), are going to cheerfully vote for a candidate they see as a Bush accomplice?

I am merely pointing out that you can't buy votes, or scare people into voting for the lesser of two evils; not when they see the entire system as evil!

16. I marched against the war
...and I would gladly choose Wes Clark over GWB any day.

I don't know what association he has or doesn't have with the evil School of the Americas, but he clearly has enough merits in his other foreign policy views to make him clearly much more desirable than 4 more years of Bush.

15. Okay, I exaggerated
But I would vote for any of the current Democratic candidates over Bush.

I suspect you know that's what I meant?

10. go kamikaze on Bush?
you want the dems to committ suicide?

Forgive me for not blaming the dems for not destroying themselves to take out one scurvy spider. With Bush gone, there will still be right-wingers, and it would be nice to still have a dem party.
