State of the Union speech: Top aides hone themes of U.S. progress, unity
Washington -- With the nation at war and his re-election campaign under way, President Bush huddled with top aides at Camp David this weekend, polishing the State of the Union address he'll deliver Tuesday night to a joint session of Congress.

Bush will lay out a legislative agenda calling for extended tax cuts, immigration reform and continuing efforts in the anti-terror campaign. He'll also use the speech to spell out why voters should return him to office for a second four-year term when they vote in November.

Tuesday's speech, televised at 9 p.m., will resound with the theme that the Bush administration is "meeting the tests of our time," as the president has told supporters in one campaign rally after another in recent weeks.

"That point will come across," said White House Communications Director Dan Bartlett.

It looks like we get a Bush campaign speech instead of a SotU speech.

Poisonous Rhetoric ShowsBush Is Dividing the Nation

"The religious bigotry and divisiveness of Reverend Falwell’s statement should be a wake-up call to President Bush that his program is dividing the nation along religious lines."

2. Unity?

It is sort of surprising that he would add to his brag list getting the Democrats to agree that he is a piece of s**t. Go figure.

5. I watched last years SOTU. I think that I will pass this year also.
Since it will nothing more than a *BUSH/SATAN 04 Commercial, I think everyone should boycott the speach and go out to dinner.

6. It's unity for Republicans, not the country.
Silly me for thinking that the President would advocate unity between all Americans. Where'd that come from?

"What he clearly wants to do is rally the base and project an image of unity and optimism that's very different from what the Democrats are projecting at the moment," said John White, professor of political science at the Catholic University of America in Washington. "What they're thinking of is Nov. 2, 2004."

7. Definitely watching. The smirks. The twitches...
I'm hoping for some inappropriate snickering from the Dems. I want to see Bush's ears turn red on live TV.

12. I hope he tells the PROGRESS of his fundraising efforts
He bragged once about how much he would raise ("just watch" he told a reporter). Maybe he could tell the world how much progress so far and gloat for everyone.....add Cheney's millions too, (76% of his various "visits" have been for campaign fundraising).
