McCain says no new taxes
Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican John McCain says there will be no new taxes during his administration if he is elected president.

"No new taxes," the likely GOP presidential nominee said during a taped interview broadcast Sunday.

McCain told ABC's "This Week" that under no circumstances would he increase taxes, and added that he could "see an argument, if our economy continues to deteriorate, for lower interest rates, lower tax rates, and certainly decreasing corporate tax rates," as well as giving people the ability to write off depreciation and eliminating the alternative minimum tax.

McCain was defending his support for an extension of tax cuts sought by President Bush, which McCain voted against. The Arizona senator now says allowing the tax breaks to expire would amount to an unacceptable tax increase.

Hmm, No New Taxes.....why does that ring a bell?

Oh, yes...

Bush Family Swinging Behind McCain

WASHINGTON (AP) — John McCain's embrace from the Republican establishment, once hard to imagine, is nearly complete. Former President George H.W. Bush's endorsement Monday will effectively give the future presidential nominee the stamp of approval of the Bush family — both blessing and baggage.

So, what idiot in the McCain campaign let him spout this the day before getting an endorsement from the man who made it famous?

8. Oh that's easy.
He'll stop the war, make off-shoring to avoid taxes illegal, and cut the defense budget in half.

He just hired the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy as economic policy advisor's.

Just like Reagan and the Bushes. Right?

My g-g-g grandkids should be so lucky to see this wasteful war mongering spending be addressed.

9. Great idea 'Mac'....
instead of paying all that borrowed money back to all those foreign banks, including the 'Federal Reserve'(which is a privately held banking institution) we can just give them a State at a time.

go ahead, continue to borrow from the magic money trees and when they turn and say "Oh, you have to pay more then the intrest. What's that? you can't? ok, we will just take New York State and Maine. Thanks for doing business with Bank Of China."..then its just tough titty.

19. We are in deep debt, this President was supported by...
Primarily Wealthy Republicans who on the average pay less of their income, than I do. I work 60 Hours average every week, and I pay 41% or more, of my income in State, City, and Federal Taxes. Federal I spend right near 30%, I saw something that said the Rich on the average pay right near 15%. They cry about how much of the tax burden they have, and yet, I do not off-shore my corporation, I pay my taxes. If I become successful in business, I promise you all, I will never off-shore my corporation. In fact I wish that they would make this illegal. McLiar doesn't want to have an increase in taxes, but all of the tax breaks that the Rich Republicans have gotten have contributed to the falling of our Nation. I wish for the Rich to pay their share. Most of these policies that Monkey Boy has enacted have only helped the Rich. Most of us, the other 80% of America are struggling. F@#k McLiar. Let us defeat this F#@%er.

20. lip reading
McCain is either dishonest, ignorant or deep into the "say whatever I need to say to get elected" phase of his campaign. I wonder how much more mileage the media will be able to wring out of the straight talk express/ maverick script. His double-talking about-face on waterboarding the other day was just stunning. I respect McCain for what he went through, but suffering does not automatically convey wisdom on its victims. I see an old man clinging desperately to a dream and thinking about himself when he should be thinking about his country.

24. A video of 'Read my lips: no new taxes' ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5DZBFbMdjI

"And I'm the one who will not raise taxes. My opponent now says he'll raise them as a last resort, or a third resort. But when a politician talks like that, you know that's one resort he'll be checking into. My opponent, my opponent won't rule out raising taxes. But I will. And the Congress will push me to raise taxes and I'll say no. And they'll push, and I'll say no, and they'll push again, and I'll say, to them, ‘Read my lips: no new taxes."
- George H. W. Bush, August 18, 1988,
Republican National Convention, nomination acceptance speech

29. more of the same "tinkled on economics"
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2008/01/18/mccains_economic_plan_takes_long_view/
The Republican presidential candidate proposed cutting the corporate tax rate to 25 percent from 35 percent, saying it would expand the economy, creating jobs and opportunity. He said his plan was "progrowth, less taxes, and less spending." He contrasted it with what he called the Democrats' "tired ideas of tax and spend."

http://useconomy.about.com/od/fiscalpolicy/p/John_McCain.htm

McCain's Economic Stimulus Plan:
Cut the corporate tax rate to 25% from 35%. Fund the reductions with cuts in "pork-barrel spending", such as the 10,000 local projects, totaling over $10 billion, in legislation recently signed by President Bush.

Allow expensing of businesss equipment and technology investment for the first year.

Establish a tax credit equal to 10% of wages spent on research and development.

McCain's Long-term Economic Platform: McCain's Economic Platform includes his short-term stimulus measures, and adds the following:

Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) saving middle class families nearly $60 billion a year. This tax was originally designed to fall on the wealthiest but, thanks to inflation, each year it snags more middle-income taxpayers who claim a lot of deductions.

Extend expiring tax cuts from Bush's first term.

Approve the President's line item veto.

Add personal accounts to Social Security.

More trade agreements.

Increase troops in Iraq.

More nuclear energy.

Tax credit of $2,500 per person / $5,000 per family towards health care insurance.

Reduce wasteful government spending, control Medicare costs, reform unemployment training.

========

my comments:

---Cut the corporate tax rate to 25% from 35%. more tinkled-on.. instead of cutting corp/business taxes - give them a tax credit for every NEW job created

---Repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax. This is good if you fall into that catagory, I don't so it means doodly-squat to me as far as paying taxes

---Tax credit of $2,500 per person Health insurance. doesn't say if co-pay's through employer qualifies, and if you don't have health insurance because you can't afford it - what the hell good does the tax credit do you?

---reform unemployment training. don't need unemployment training. been unemployed, know how to be unemployed. what's needed is to repeal the income tax on unemployment benefits (instituted by st. reagan), and real job training classes, unemployment office that actually helps people find jobs.
There was a time when you were unemployed, in addition to the usual job search methods, the unemployment office actually helped you find a job. In the short term - since it's going to take a few years to dig ourselves out of the bush economy, unemployment benefits should be extended.

In my area alone, 3 large employers are laying off or shutting down. 500 jobs lost in a month's time. Who knows what the actual figure is if you add in the smaller employers shutting down/laying off

all in all - McCain=More of the Same
