Group asks city council for Bush impeachment resolution
Associated Press - February 12, 2008 10:54 AM ET

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Local activists want the city council to draft and vote on a resolution to impeach President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Organizer Liz Robinson says the proceedings would be worth it even they happen near the end of the administration's term. The group calling on their local leaders to execute the resolution have been attending Boulder City Council meetings recently and handing out pins that say "impeach."

Councilman Macon Cowles says the group deserves to be heard. He says he'll ask his colleagues at the February 19th meeting to draft an impeachment resolution.

1. Good. The publicity of the 'I' word is good, even if no one will do
anything about it.

3. so if the prerequisite number of local and state governments pass
impeachment resolutions would Pelosi and Reid still ignore the law that says if State gov pass resolutions the Congress must act on them? and if so, can THEY be impeached or removed?

4. I think the answers to that are yes and yes. In fact, it takes only ONE state to
introduce an impeachment resolution in Congress--and it is a privileged resolution that must take precedence over all other business. ONE state. (Jefferson's Rules for Congress, which still apply.) If Pelosi/Reid were to outright deny the State their right under Jefferson's Rules to submit an impeachment resolution (which is just a start to the proceedings, not impeachment itself--which has to be voted on), they would be guilty of contempt of Congress, or worse. But more likely they would try to maneuver around the Rules, and table it in some legal way--to prevent a vote.

Just sayin. ONE state.

That is a good reason to persist. Also, it would be major news if a state did that. Other states might join. It could start a snowball. But even if the chances of it passing were nil--quite probable in this Diebold II Congress--it is a way of reminding our derelect Congress members of their duty, of reinforcing the American peoples' demand for Constitutional government, and an on-going reminder of just how criminal, traitorous and malfeasant the Bush regime has been.

We should never forget. And we should never stop trying, until Constitutional government is restored. Just remember, any Democrat who is elected President (--and who knows, with these voting machines, what will happen, or what the fascist plan is, at this point?), that President will then have an array of horrendous, unconstitutional powers, with precedents set by Bush & co. and by our so-called 'Democratic' Congress. The moment they use one of them--aggressive war, torture, spying, detention without trial, executive "signing orders" (undoing laws passed by Congress)--or even hint at doing so, or even merely endorse or act upon Bush Junta previous actions (--such as proceeding with capital punishment military tribunals against Guantanamo prisoners who have been tortured and held without charge)--we should begin impeachment proceedings in the states, and in cities to pressure state legislators.

We should never let up until these powers are disavowed and undone. They are not only completely unconstitutional and in violation of international law and many treaties, they are a grave threat to us all. Nazism starts this way--by shoving laws aside and picking on the weakest. A weak country, like Iraq (think Czechoslovakia, Poland). The people least able to defend themselves--random Arab targets suspected of "terrorism" (read: German Jews who were accused of just that--of the Reichstag--German parliament--fire). Or "illegal aliens" with brown skin (peremptory deportation). (Look what just happened in Hawaii the other day--a baby died in an airport because of nazi "security" measures. Or anti-war activists being put on "watch lists" and stopped at the Canadian border.) It is only a matter of time before that kind of government power--fascist power--is utilized on everybody. Today the prisoners of Guantanamo; tomorrow, you and me.

And don't be fooled that a Democrat wouldn't use them! (Remember Seattle '99! That was pre-Bush!)
