Credit card settlement could put money in pockets
Source: Chicago Tribune

Credit card issuers send out a lot of notices, and you may throw most of them out as soon as you spy the tiny print.

But if you received a notice from the "U.S. District Court Settlement Administrator," it's not only worth reading, but filling out.

More than 30 million notices have been sent to credit and debit card customers who are eligible for a refund for fees paid when using a Visa, MasterCard or Diners Club card to make purchases and ATM withdrawals outside the United States. Refunds can be $25 or higher.

The refund is part of the settlement of a class-action lawsuit filed years ago.

The lawsuit claimed, among other things, that Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and certain banks hid foreign exchange fees from customers. The fees typically ran from 1 percent to 3 percent.

1. I got one of these awhile back.
Filled it out online and am awaiting my whopping $25. Hey, that's a tank of gas or a few days worth of groceries!

3. the essential words are CAN BE -
But the payments may be zilch as well. We've been involved in class action suits in the past and gotten zilch, because the attorneys get paid first. I wouldn't be making any plans to use money that isn't possibly going to be there, once the dust settled.

4. I got one a few weeks back and filled it out
If the settlement comes through, I could get $25 or $30 because I was out of the country aabout 30 days during the times in question. But, if it doesn't come through, I'm not out anything but 5 minutes of my time.

5. Uh most people with cc use them to survive not travel
so in my opinion. Just another facade that
something is being done about credit card companies getting
rich off the meek. Like the housing industries
started doing when they saw our government could give a shit about
the average person trying to survive in
a desolate economy. Priceless!

7. Oh, but of course! The refund is going to those who
already have enough resources to travel outside the country! You know, like cruises or ski vacations in Switzerland or wardrobe shopping in Paris or . . . .

What about the people who get stuck with a $39 late fee because bad weather delayed the arrival of a check? Or who have to pay for a questionable charge and then WAIT two or three months to have it reversed and refunded?

But it's more important to give $25 or $30 back to someone who spent $15k on a vacation. . . ..

And yes, I know there are those who travel for business. . .. those who have jobs, that is.

8. And then there are those that have to travel
abroad to even see their family or help take care of family that don't live in America.

9. You never have to pay for a questionable charge up front.
Nor can they claim you are delinquient on that charge as long as it is under question.
