CNN: Georgia Democrats Give Obama Win
Edited on Tue Feb-05-08 07:16 PM by Hissyspit
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- Sen. Barack Obama will win Georgia's Democratic primary, CNN projects, but the Republican race there is too close to call.

Sen. Barack Obama will win Georgia's Democratic primary, CNN projects. Early results showed Obama with a 2-1 lead over rival Hillary Clinton in the first state to close its polls. CNN projections show a tight three-way race among Republicans John McCain, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

As polls begin to close, candidates were awaiting results from the 24 states holding primaries or caucuses today. Republican conservative voters appear to be evenly split between Romney and Huckabee, according to preliminary exit polls of Super Tuesday voters.

- snip -

On the Democratic side, those who made up their mind in the last three days appear to be torn between Obama and Clinton.

4. Obama beats Hillary 86 to 13 percent in Georgia - Exit polls
Source: ABC News

Wow. Since Georgia isn't a majority black state, if this is true.................

Share In the first win of what is expected to be a long night, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., defeated Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., in Georgia, a key Southern state, winning 86 percent support to Clinton's 13 percent, according to preliminary exit poll results.

A record turnout of African American voters, who account for just over half of registered Democratic voters in the states, surged to the polls and overwhelmingly voted for Obama.

Democratic voters cast ballots Tuesday in an historic and, for many, emotional presidential nominating contest that will produce either the first woman or the first African-American in the nation's history to be elected the Democratic Party's presidential nominee.

5. USA Hooray shows 65% of the vote, but no delegates?
Do they not have any delegates or is it a matter of waiting until all the results are in before something is posted?

10. He's got flaws, but Clinton's "I'll pick my powers" moment made her the enemy.

11. I'm not sure what you mean
my dislike of Clinton came slowly as her senate career confirmed to me that she was a DLC-caver and her support of this war proved to me that she was coldly calculating.

Initial results are looking good, although the very large states worry me. All I can say is that I did the best I could do with my solitary vote.

13. Did you catch the comment from the Obama camp?
That they are optimistic that, while Hillary enjoys a lot of name loyalty that gives her a natural advantage in contests like Super Tuesday where there are too many states voting at the same time for the candidates to have time to campaign significantly in any one state, results suggest that Obama is the more effective campaigner and, once he's in a position to devote more time to each individual state, he'll be able to wear down any lead Hillary may still have. It's an interesting point - thus far, in pretty much every contest where Hillary and Obama have gone head to head in campaigning, Hillary's lost votes and Obama's gained them. She's got a big advantage to whittle down, but it's not unimaginable.

16. I just hope to god the momentum continues and Hillary doesn't
run or we're doomed. McCain and the Huckster will win.

18. Georgia was the headline last night because it was all they had
I live in Georgia and wondered why CNN kept showing just us and then I realized that, except for West Virginia, the only numbers they had were Georgia. Our polls closed at 7:00 PM EST an hour before most other states (I'm winging that) and that was all they had. When they got other numbers they ran with them. Georgia was boring from a democratic viewpoint so they were only too happy to ignore it once they got other states to run with.
