Yahoo to Lay Off 1,000 Workers
Source: AP

By MICHAEL LIEDTKE

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Yahoo Inc. (YHOO) (YHOO)'s financial funk deepened at the end of 2007, prompting the slumping Internet icon to draw up plans to lay off 1,000 workers.

The Sunnyvale-based company disclosed the upcoming 7 percent reduction in its 14,300-employee work force during a Tuesday conference call to review a 23 percent decline in its fourth-quarter profit.

Yahoo didn't specify which areas of its operations will be trimmed. Yahoo jettisoned 650 workers in the wake of the dot-com bust seven years ago. Management indicated further details will be released by mid-February.

"This is a necessary step in our transformation," Yahoo Chief Executive Jerry Yang said during the conference call.

1. Yahoo sucks ASS.
Jerry Yang's return to Yahoo sucks ASS.

They took their eyes off the prize.

That's the ONLY reason why Google gained their market share.

Yahoo...and Jerry Yang...MUTUALLY SUCK ASS.

7. They sell advertising - but this is bad for all of us.
This means that fewer companies are buying ads, so they're selling less. There is definitely an effect on employment.

I have a small business and I advertise on Yahoo and Google. I'm still running my ads - but I know many who can't keep paying for them.

There is nothing good about this. I wish the elitist snots who piss on Yahoo would understand how it really affects all of us.

11. Yahoo's management is the ultimate dysfunctional family
Seriously...you've heard the term "the best and the brightest"...I don't know how to classify the kind of man and woman who applies for management positions at Yahoo, but they're among the least competent members of the gene pool.

I've read a few articles about the "management shake-ups" Yahoo's had over the years, but I can only read them in small doses. Virtually every interview I've ever read with "senior management" at Yahoo leaves me shaking my head and asking "Who IS this A**HOLE?"

So I have to balance my empathy for people feeling the backlash of Yahoo's misfortunes with my complete and utter disgust with Yahoo as a corporate entity.
