Thompson contemplates dropping out of race
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 12:14 PM by Skinner
Source: Cleveland.com

Republican Fred Thompson is apparently weighing the future of his bid after a disappointing third-place finish in South Carolina Saturday.

Thompson had hoped to perform strongly in Iowa, where he tied for third, and South Carolina.

The former Tennessee senator and "Law & Order" actor returned home after delivering a speech in South Carolina on Saturday that sounded like he was calling it quits. He stopped short of doing so but some supporters suspected it would only be a matter of time before Thompson withdraws.

Before South Carolina, several aides had said he probably would need to finish first or a strong second in that race to go forward.

8. Fred is only staying
in the race to help his buddy McCain. Fred is pulling the evangelical vote from Huckabee and this allowed McCain to win SC. Perhaps Fred is positioning himself for a cabinet spot. I think he would make an outstanding Secretary of Afternoon Naps.

36. You might be dreaming
if you think Fred's supporters would go to either Huckabee or McCain, there are serious difficulties the "Fredheads" have with both of them. My guess? They go to Romney, except for the hardcore evangelicals who don't want the Mormons to have a great new proselytizing tool.

While watching G's speech in Fla. this A.M. it came to me that his decision to focus on Fla. all this time, was as stupid as putting the Emergency Response Team in the Twin Towers !!! Right???? P.S. How'd that work out for him?:nuke:

15. Please don't quit fred.....we need a good laugh.
I would really hate to see "the cuddly old clown" quit. Gosh, they wouldn't have that "easy going grandpa southerner" to crack his bumbling jokes. Oh well, maybe the repugs can find another entertainer to take his spot.

Honestly, they are entertaining. Would be more so if there wasn't a chance they could be in control of this country for the NEXT FOUR YEARS!

Dumb-ass fucking idiot.

He expected that as soon as he entered the race, rethugs would suddenly embrace him as their Savior. Never even bothered to do any serious campaigning.

... he's done no better than the Bottom 3 in every state primary thus far ... what is he waiting for?
Why is the MSM still treating him like a front runner? What do they know that we don't know (yet)?

38. Ouch.
Probably true, though.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that Dems should do what they can to keep Fred in. Like the Democrats4Mitt campaign, anything we can do to keep forcing them to spend more money split more ways, with more embarrassment, is worth it. I wonder what the rules are about Dems voting for him in Florida (if the primary is worthless), just to make him drag his funds out and wear out his welcome.

Plus, where would we be without the pathetic pictures of him in the Top10?
