US rejects Japan request over fuel use in 'war on terror': report
Source: AFP

The United States has rejected a request by Japan that it verify Tokyo's contribution to the US-led "war on terror" in Afghanistan is not used for military operations in Iraq, a report said Sunday.

Japan on Thursday ordered two naval ships back to the Indian Ocean after parliament forced through the resumption of the mission to provide fuel and other support to coalition forces operating in Afghanistan.

Ahead of the resumption, scheduled for mid-February, Japan and the United States are making arrangements to exchange documents on details of support later this month, according to Kyodo News service.

But Washington disagreed with Japan's plan to include provisions that would enable Tokyo to verify what the fuel was being used for, Kyodo reported, quoting unnamed sources close to Japan-US relations.

1. In other words Japan do not trust the word of america
Japan want to be able to verify for themselves that their fuel shipments are not being diverted to Iraq.

5. Going to piss off many people here in Japan
And what sort of arse-backwards thinking went into this? Send the ships, then try and get the guarantee?

But then again, that was probably the plan all along by the lapdog LDP administration under that snivelling Fukuda.

7. so what else is new
If the Japanese had some dignity, they'd halt the shipments until the U.S. made a public declaration on this issue that satisfies Japanese concerns.

OR

They can turn their back, oil their asshole well with Vaseline, and take it up the booty, like a lot of Democrats in this country and others have been doing to the Bush administration.
