South Carolina primary plagued by bad voting machines, snow
Source: cnn.com

"Malfunctioning voting machines plagued Horry County, which contains the cities of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, according to poll workers. Workers said the machines have been down since polls opened at 7 a.m., and they are not reading activation cards."

"Workers were handing out paper ballots, but at least one precinct has run out -- it had only 23 on hand. Poll workers said the county has about 100 precincts, and all of them are affected."

1. That favors die-hard fundies, who love the 'sense of sacrifice' aspect. NT

2. I think Huckebee supporters will find a way to come out
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 02:23 PM by NYCALIZ
after all how often are you called to serve God?

On a funny note, I read a story where an evangelical voter said something like "Huckebee was called to serve God (as a preacher), why did he stop answering the call?"

11. If only they were told
what day, what time, what polling station and what machine number was going to break they could have been more prepared.

6. They never count provisional ballots, anyway.
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 02:33 PM by sofa king
It's sort of like getting a thank you card after being f***ed without a kiss. They're worth about the same, anyway.

12. Wow. The article is very different now.
Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 06:30 PM by Heywoodj
There's no mention of paper ballots now, nor the failed activation cards. A little after-the-record editing of the article never hurt anyone, eh CNN?

From the revised article: (instead of early machine failure and memory card failure)
"Human error" put the machines offline in 80 percent of the county's precincts during Saturday's voting, according to county spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier

So every operator in eighty percent of precincts fucked up the exact same way at the exact same time, all pre-election? Right. It couldn't be the touch screens, no sir.

"I like the fact he's a Christian," said voter Stacee Groome.

They all are, dumbass. Not a single one of them isn't, nor has any president not been one.

Kay Burns' husband, Ellus, said he voted for former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee because of his "presentation, maturity and Reaganism." Burns said the most important issues for him are the economy and international relations.
Because of his "Reaganism" - that's like saying you voted for him because he was mentally ill.

14. Poll Chair Perspective
I was working a County in the northern part of the state - Polls started on time - closed on time - no horrible issues - yes there was snow - but there was high turnout also.

But CNN didn't poll my little polling place.

16. "By 4 p.m. ET, only about four of the county's 118 precincts were without a working machine,"
Another way to say that is "Even by 4PM, 3 hours before the polls were supposed to close, as many as 5% of the precincts still did not have a functioning voting machine".
