Borat wins etiquette teacher lawsuit
Source: The Age (Melbourne)

January 19, 2008 - 2:10PM

Alabama's Supreme Court sided with British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen today in a lawsuit filed by etiquette teacher Kathie Martin, who unwittingly appeared in his hit movie Borat.

The nine justices overruled a lower court and said Martin cannot sue Cohen and the companies that produced the movie in Alabama because she signed an agreement stating only courts in New York could hear any disputes that arose from her appearance.

Martin did not immediately return a message seeking comment. Neither did a spokesman for Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp, which distributed the movie and was sued by Martin.

Several other people who appeared in the 2006 movie have filed suit claiming they were duped into appearing in the comedy, which grossed more than $US200 million ($228 million).

18. I liked it too
the humor to me came from the attempts of his "victims" to remain polite and civil in the face of Borat's increasingly absurd behavior.

It wasn't that Borat humiliated these people, it was their efforts to keep from being humiliated (and hence completely lose control) that made it so funny

It was the clash of civilization versus a deranged madman

6. If I had the deep pockets
of the movie industry, the list of law suits against me for practical jokes would be longer than Ann Coulter's dick, and the list of lies spouted by everyone connected to the Bush Administration. And I would post those lies, but for fear of shutting down the Internets, I won't.
Ann Coulter's dick? Oh Jeebus, AHHHHHH!!!!! :puke:

8. I was amazed how many people in his movie thought
a return to slavery was a good thing.

13. Yes it was tasteless and offensive, but those were just a device.
He was ripping away the shiny veneer of the "normal" in our society. The villagers were the thesis, the travel was the argument. The hooker at the end restated the thesis.

14. Agreed , Borat was wonderfully done.......
Pure theater....like Andy Kaufman or even Tom Green but taking it to a higher intensity level.........He had to really have pissed some of those people off though.................I'm sure a lot are still smouldering.....wouldn't you love to see the outtakes ?

The driving instructor was great. He wouldn't let Cohen suck him into the game.

It was a much more intelligent movie than I thought it would be.
