35. Did anyone see the story on Drudge about Dean?
I don't know how to do a link but it is something about an affidavit and spouse abuse and his deputy.

The Drudge blurb links to ABC (or CBS can't remember which) and is fairly long and detailed.

I hope this isn't true, cause it sounds like the Good Doctor maybe let his loyalty override his judgment.

She is a formidable contender who certainly can hold her own among the big boys. She is a universal role model.

I agree, Carol either needs to run for Senator from Illinois again, or be appointed to the administration of the Democratic president taking office in 2005.

40. She would get destroyed...
People in Illinois have long memories. Her senate campaign and career were not high points of Carol's time in Illinois politics. Unfortunately, she learned a lot about Chicago ward politics during her tenure as Recorder of Deeds for Cook County. As a black guy, I'm proud Carol was taken seriously and race was rarely brought up. But, unfortunately, Carol had baggage that spelled doom before her campaign ever really got off the ground.

She hasn't said anything yet. This is taped @ 5pm - could it have been leaked from the broadcast?

I'll keep you posted...

On edit: She told an ancedote earlier about an exchange between her and a little girl. The little girl said she hoped to be the first woman president and CMB said, "well, you'll be the second woman president."

She's also speaking in terms of "when I'm President." She doesn't sound like someone ready to drop out.

27. She's saying the people of Iowa will accept her next Tuesday
Edited on Wed Jan-14-04 11:27 PM by nu_duer
Like the people of Ill. did.

Not even the slightest indication she'll drop out.

And this was taped today. Maybe somehting changed afterwards?

I don't think she'd be dropping out before the first (xcept for DC) votes are cast, unless Dean really needs her support, and she's folding for him. If that's the case, Dean goes up a notch in my book.

Either way, I don't want her to drop out first. That's Lieberman's job.

Personally, I think she brings a lot to the table, I'd hate to see her leave so early.

It's very possible, and extremely newsworthy.

At present, it's unverified, however.

Anyone interested in this story should post a link to back it up.

Carol Moseley Braun, the former senator and ambassador who waged a spirited but poorly financed insurgent campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, intends to withdraw from the race, according to MSNBC sources.

MSNBC has confirmed with Patricia Ireland, Moseley-Braun's campaign manager, that the candidate will formally withdraw on Thursday and endorse Howard Dean at an event at an Iowa high school. Moseley Braun received 3 percent in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal Democratic presidential trial heat.

Moseley Braun To Drop Out Of Presidential Race, Endorse Dean
Endorsement Expected To Come Thursday

POSTED: 11:51 p.m. EST January 14, 2004
UPDATED: 11:52 p.m. EST January 14, 2004
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Former ambassador and Sen. Carol Moseley Braun plans to drop out of the presidential race.
Sources said she will endorse Howard Dean. Officials close to the Dean campaign confirmed they expect the endorsement to come Thursday. The officials said Braun approached Dean after a recent debate and told him she was considering leaving the race and backing him.

Dean campaign officials declined comment.

One of two black candidates, Braun is giving Dean her endorsement even as he has faced questions about his record on race issues. That includes not having any minorities as members of his cabinet while he was governor for 12 years

What's the old story with Trippi grabbing other candidates tickets to a straw poll in the past? Sounds like the Sopranos style of politics.

Braun to drop out, endorse Dean
Front-runner Dean says Clark a Republican

Thursday, January 15, 2004 Posted: 12:15 AM EST (0515 GMT)

A Democratic source said Moseley Braun "felt like it was time to hand it over to someone who can win."

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) -- Former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun -- trailing badly in the polls -- will drop out of the Democratic race for president and will endorse front-runner Howard Dean, Democratic sources told CNN late Wednesday.
The sources said Braun and Dean will hold an event Thursday in Carroll, Iowa, where she will throw her support behind the former Vermont governor.
"It's true. Carol felt like she had done what she needed to do," a Democratic source said. "She did herself a lot of good in this race.
"She ran a good race and now she felt like it was time to hand it over to someone who can win. Those are the feelings that were expressed to me this evening."

Moseley Braun to Quit Presidential Race
Thursday, January 15, 2004

Former Illinois Sen. Carol Moseley Braun is ending her historic presidential bid, Fox News has confirmed. Campaign officials for Howard Dean told Fox News she intends to endorse the former Vermont governor.

With the clock winding down to the nation’s first presidential caucus in Iowa next week, Moseley Braun’s withdrawal winnows the crowded field of Democratic contenders to eight. The only major black woman presidential candidate in history, her decision to throw her support behind Dean may prove a helpful boost in what has been a week of fever-pitch attacks against, and missteps by, the front-runner.

43. I have never liked Braun, but I respect her for her tact in this case.
She rode it till it threw her. Especially after the last debate, I am impressed with the way she went out. She help tight to her attempt even after I thought it was a done deal weeks ago. She then,in the last debate, layed down the law with a series of comments that in retrospection were a great exiting volley. I still have problems with her, but I respect the timing and the tenacity.
