1. If Obama wins Nevada and So. Carolina, every state Hillary leads in will be in major play.
In fact, if he wins both, I think he'll do really well on Super Tuesday.

4. To say Clinton and McCain are warmongers is so simplistic. Such black and white thinking from
progressives.

6. Hillary IS a war monger
As I recall Hillary said that as soon as she was in office, she would not pull out the troops but consult with Petreus and Joint Chief of Staff. She also said that her diplomatic relations with Iran and Syria would be conditional, whereas Obama showed willingness to jump start diplomatic relations with these nations immediately. Like McCain, Hillary has a concern about "peace with honor". She doesn't go so far as to talk about an unwillingness to "surrender", but she does want to bring troops home once order is established in Iraq. In order to keep the peace in Iraq a large number of troops will be needed for the indefinite future.

9. Do you recall the HC was the first to request a withdraw or redeployment plan
from the Pentagon and was roundly dissed by the media, Dems, and Republicans? The media distorted the request, the Dems laughed at it, and the Republicans smeared it. She wasn't asking for a public plan but one to the relevant committees and her major concern was how to get the troops out SAFELY. She was the first and the Dems did not support her because it was she who first asked for plan.

I first met Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama almost ten years ago when, as my representative in the Illinois state senate, he came to speak at the University of Chicago. He impressed me as progressive, intelligent and charismatic. I distinctly remember thinking 'if only a man of this calibre could become president one day.'

On Friday Obama gave a speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Chicago. It had been much anticipated in American Jewish political circles which buzzed about his intensive efforts to woo wealthy pro-Israel campaign donors who up to now have generally leaned towards his main rival Senator Hillary Clinton.

Reviewing the speech, Ha'aretz Washington correspondent Shmuel Rosner concluded that Obama "sounded as strong as Clinton, as supportive as Bush, as friendly as Giuliani. At least rhetorically, Obama passed any test anyone might have wanted him to pass. So, he is pro-Israel. Period."

Israel is "our strongest ally in the region and its only established democracy," Obama said, assuring his audience that "we must preserve our total commitment to our unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance and continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense programs." Such advanced multi-billion dollar systems he asserted, would help Israel "deter missile attacks from as far as Tehran and as close as Gaza." As if the starved, besieged and traumatized population of Gaza are about to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Obama offered not a single word of criticism of Israel, of its relentless settlement and wall construction, of the closures that make life unlivable for millions of Palestinians.
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told "the Chicago Tribune on September 26, 2004, 'he big question is going to be, if Iran is resistant to these pressures , including economic sanctions, which I hope will be imposed if they do not cooperate, at what point ... if any, are we going to take military action?'

"He added, 'aunching some missile strikes into Iran is not the optimal position for us to be in' given the ongoing war in Iraq. 'On the other hand, having a radical Muslim theocracy in possession of nuclear weapons is worse.' Obama went on to argue that military strikes on Pakistan should not be ruled out if 'violent Islamic extremists' were to 'take over'," Joshua Frank wrote January 22, 2005, for Antiwar.com.<1>

17. and...
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 08:31 AM by indimuse
I learn his wife is a director in the Chicago CFR, or whatever they call themselves these days. The CFR is one of the most anti-American groups that exist(Dick Cheney is also a member , as most of them are. Them being crooked politicians who stop at nothing to sell us out).
Then, the kicker, Zbigniew Brzezinski, is one of Barack Obama’s national security advisers! This guy is practically the architect of our middle east mess. Read his book "The Grand Chessboard", he lays out the whole plan right there, AND he wrote it in 1998.
So Obama, who is supposedly anti-war, is aligned with one of the most hawkish guys out there. How does this benefit blacks or whites or anyone who isn't an elite.
:grr: :grr:
the company he keeps is quite revealing..wouldn't you say!

18. Can you provide a link to this article?

But I can understand what Obama was doing - sort of like "When you are with Jews, talk Hebrew."

19.  He talks about Obama's history interacting with Arab American
Palestinian activist, Ali Abunimah gives a fascinating analysis of Barack Obama's recent speech to the America Israel PAC -- fascinating because he has observed Obama for about 10 years in Chicago politics. He talks about Obama's history interacting with Arab American constituents and his ultimate move to support Israel. I think Obama needs to address and explain this history, lest he look like an opportunist playing the political game like everyone else.

Abunimah essay is: "How Barack Obama learned to love Israel".

UPDATE: Apparently Obama's position is a little more nuanced than his earlier speech might indicate. M.J. Rosenberg offers up some commentary.

UPDATE 2: An article in The Jewish Week provides a more extensive background than Abunimah's article. It includes interviews with some of Obama's neighbors and Professor Rashid Khalidi, who hosted a fund raiser for Obama back in the state senate days. (This is going to be a great election season!)

7. When it comes to vote, it is black and white.
The "I vote for but I really don't have any other reasonable choice at this time" is a spin (i.e. "reframing") for lack of courage or principle. Or both.
