Allen says he won't run for Gov. in '09
Source: Roanoke Times

"We will always fondly recall our time in the Governor's Mansion as an unparalleled honor and a period of historic initiatives and transformational accomplishments for Virginians. Yet, as we look forward, we are excited about other significant ways we can serve and contribute outside of elected office. Therefore, I will not be a candidate for Governor in 2009," he wrote.

5. A real piece of Macaca
Good news for Virginia. A Macaca in Richmond might have prevented us from buying a house in C'ville. :hi:

6. I'm guessing he's expecting an Obama victory in November.

The LAST thing he's gonna want is to step back into the spotlight with that "macaca" tape following him - like a long trail of toilet paper that he can't get off his shoe.

Our friend mr. allen may have just detected climate change.

15. From your mouth... as the saying goes...
Disarray for the bad guys is good for all the rest of us!

I find myself hoping that this disaffection might ultimately compel the Bible-thumpers to break away and form their own party. And that would splinter the GOP for decades!

Too bad it took people so many years of his collecting a taxpayer-financed paycheck before they realized they'd been had.

10. But he was already governor of Virginia.
Don't you mean he was going to run for Warner's open senate seat? Can he run for governor again???

13. he could run for governor again
governors in Virginia can not succeed themselves, but they can sit out a term, and seek the office again

from wiki ~

... Virginia does not allow an incumbent Governor to succeed himself, so the incumbent Governor is barred from running in the election (although a former governor may run again in subsequent gubernatorial elections). As of 2007, Virginia is the only state in the U.S. in which governors cannot serve consecutive terms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_of_Virginia

I'm still puzzling over what "...historic initiatives and transformational accomplishments for Virginians" Allen's ego is referencing.

"... Allen wrote that he and his wife, Susan, had struggled with and prayed..."
sure they did

Politicians like him and Ollie North can go to the dustheap. Hopefully bigot Marshall will lose too in his senate bid. (And Jim "Kill"more too).

14. The ass knew he couldn't win -- too much of VA is now either blue or purple
And, the NOVA Republicans know that electing Allen again would make VA look like some backwards Jim Crow state. They don't want that, and they have clout.

16. So They're Running Gilmore...
Gilmore? Who left the state in tatters...and deep in debt? Gilmore whose tendency to drivel on is legendary? This is who the Republicans have decided to run against Tim Kaine? Okay, that party is really out to lunch, nuttier than squirrel poop, and ready to waltz with the pretty, pretty ponies.

17. Actually...
Gilmore is running for the U.S. Senate this year against former Governor Mark Warner (D). Warner is likely to win in a landslide.

Also, Kaine cannot run for re-election in 2009 due to Virginia's unique one consecutive term rule, whereby governors must sit out a term before running again. Virginia has been alone with this rule since 1995, when Kentucky began allowing second consecutive terms.

22. Good reason! :)
You have a good reason not to like them. Both Mssrs. Allen and Gilmore are jerks, albeit Allen is somewhat intelligent whereas Gilmore is an absolute imbecile.

21. Why the hell
is Allen using the royal "we?" Who made him king?

This is bad news. "We" the people were looking forward to watching this buffoon get his ass handed to him a second time.
