Irwins onboard whale campaign
By Lauren Williams
December 27, 2007 12:00am

AS wildlife campaigners go, they don't get any bigger - or smaller - than Bindi Irwin.

And yesterday, she joined a growing cast of A-listers to sign The Daily Telegraph - Today show petition to end the slaughter of whales in the Southern Ocean Sanctuary.

Bindi and her mother Terri lent their names - and international reputations - to the anti-whaling cause.

"This is Japan's opportunity to become global heroes. I'm confident that one day we will look back on whaling in the same way we look back at slavery and cannibalism," Terri Irwin said.

...

The mother-daughter wildlife powerforce signed yesterday, three weeks after activist group Sea Shepherd renamed their flagship the Steve Irwin in memory of the Crocodile Hunter.

...

Mrs Irwin said ending whaling would be a campaign priority for the family in the new year.
