Passenger dies on flight from South Korea to LAX
By Art Marroquin, Staff Writer

A passenger died Monday during an 11-hour Korean Air flight from Seoul to Los Angeles International Airport, officials said. The passenger, whose age was estimated at 70 to 80, apparently suffered a heart attack during the nonstop flight, according to Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The pilot reported a medical emergency aboard Korean Air Flight 11 and attempted to divert the Boeing 747 to Anchorage, but the passenger died before the plane reached Alaska, Gregor said.

The flight continued on to LAX, where it landed just before 1 p.m. Monday, according to airport officials.

1. At least it was a heart attack (apparently) and not something
infectious.

2. my sentiments exactly
I sat next to a relative today who said, oh I have a LUNG-INFECTION, the doctor is not sure where it came from, but it could have come from my sister who just returned from CHINA.

3. It's pretty amazing . .
. . . with all the people in the air at any given time that something like this is so unusual as to be news.

4. My brother in law passed on in the air.
He was flying home to Hawaii and passed away in flight. He hadn't been off the island for 30 years and took a trip to California with friends.

The ironic thing was my sister in law has said, for as long as I've known her, that that is how she wants to go and her husband went that way instead.

6. My condolences. This must be hard to hear such news
On the other hand, I think that is how most of us want to go, quietly, instead of being tied to tubes for weeks and months in a hospital bed.

5. I'm amazed people can stay in the air that long without a break

I feel dizzy and sick after only 30 minutes flying from Los Angeles to San Francisco.

I can't imagine what staying in the air for 11 hours straight would be like. I'm in my 30s and healthy, but just thinking about it makes me feel queesy.

8. get one of those propeller beanies instead of flapping your arms so hard
sorry, i'm a little silly i guess, mainly because i don't think this story is newsworthy, it is hardly rare for someone to die in flight

people get blood clots and die in flight or a few days later on long flights all the time

in my humble opinion there should be stringent regulations so that seats are not so cramped, as it is the cramped conditions that cause DVT, but why shouldn't people die so that airlines can make a profit, not that airlines do make a profit but they have to pretend to be in business for some reason other than to give CEO bonuses or the gov'ts might cut off their corporate welfare

11. i hate flying in those disgusting cramped seats , i wish i was rich
so i could fly first class everytime. i have only been on a plane 3 times and the first time was when i was a year old so i don't remember.

but the other 2 times i was going to England and India. and i hated being on the plane all those hours in those seats. it's a good thing we had stop overs because i know people who have went straight and it's about 20 hours.

i never realized how tired you could get from just sitting. worse is that i'm one of those who has a hard time falling asleep unless i'm comfortable. so even if i'm tired i can't just pass the time by sleeping.

really, there should be a law about those seats. i think people might actually fly more if they improved in this area.

10. I'm going to leave instructions in my will
to have my death notice, complete with full obituary, immediately sent to Democratic Underground for release as late breaking news. Then maybe I'll finally get some of the recognition I've been denied all my life.
