Karl Rove Inks $1M-Plus Memoir Deal

GOP strategist Karl Rove has agreed to write about his years as an adviser to President Bush in a deal worth over $1.5 million with former colleague Mary Matalin's conservative imprint at Simon & Schuster, officials said Friday.

Rove, the architect of Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns and one of the most influential political advisers of his time, signed the deal with Threshold Editions, the imprint's publisher and executive vice president Louise Burke said.

"All of us at Threshold are thrilled to publish the book from the man who had the president's ear for two terms," Burke said.

Rove's agent, attorney Robert Barnett, said Threshold was chosen over eight other bidding publishers. Threshold didn't say how much Rove would be paid, but the bidding reached at least $1.5 million, two publishing officials familiar with the bidding told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, a standard industry practice.

Rove said in a statement that the memoir would offer "a candid, careful look" at Bush's presidency and his role in it.

4. My husband just mentioned that...
Exactly what you said. Rove offered publishers the right to publish his book.
Rove's price was $3 million.

He didn't have any takers for a long, long time.

It looks like he settled for $1 million. I guess that's good news. He
didn't get as much as he wanted.

Hopefully, people won't buy this garbage. If someone is that intrigued by
an evil, bald guy who fantasizes about world domination with weapons--they'd
be better of checking out an "Austin Powers" video from Blockbuster.

10. that crap will join Ann Coulter's crap on the remainder tables
within weeks of coming out.

Hell, in my red area, they can't GIVE away Friedman's "World is Flat" garbage. They had several piles of the book in the political section, marked half off - and they are still there.

The bloom is definitely off the rose for all these neocon writers. He had to take a third of what he was asking - and the publisher will wind up eating the million they gave him.

21. Even $1 Million is Wishful Thinking
Comedy books just don't do that well....and his style of fiction hasn't been a big seller anyway.

6. Haha. Goober wanted $3 million
Publishers knew he was worth $1 million in bulk sales to conservo-groups, and maybe another $850,000 in individual sales.

He got his million, but it's a dressing down, for sure.

12. What, more "memories" of how Bush wanted to delay the war vote in 2002?
What a joke. A sad, pathetic one. You have to be even stoopider than a Limbaugh dittohead to believe that his "memoir" is going to be an honest read.

Nothing! He has done absolutely nothing that wasn't self-serving. What a piece of shit! And he earns a cool mil for that. We are so fucked up as a society.

15. I guess it pays to mock stupid people
Tell them what they want to hear, keep those issues in the public eye so it looks like you're doing what you promised them, don't actually do what you promised so you can keep talking about those issues, continue to draw a salary because they'll continue to vote for you, and then when that's run its course, print it all in book form and take even more money out of their pockets. If only I didn't feel dirty doing that, I could be a rich man.

17. He's done a lot for the Neo Cons
and their agenda for World government and unions. He negated our Constitution using "words" and "fear".

The publishers reward the politicians and their gang with millions via book deals. Who reads a book by Hastert, Albright, Rumsfeld, Rice, Wolf Blitzer, Ollie North, and....traitor Rove?

The FBI should really look into to this practice of publisher money laundering and payoffs to RWers. Do "many people" really buy their books?
