PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) - It's the 18th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Panama ....

Panama's legislature .... voted today to declare this a day of "national mourning."

And they set up a commission to find out how many people were killed when U.S. troops .... arrived in the capital of the Central American country in 1989 to arrest dictator Manuel Noriega on drug charges.

1. Uh oh. Can't bury the past, much as the Bush clan would like to.

That invasion was the first military action by the United States that I can remember in my life. I remember watching the TV where they talked about the "dozens" of people killed. Turns out that the number was in the thousands. My first true experience with the corporate media and how it dutifully keeps watch on those in power for us.

2. Seems sending in an armed forces and bombers to get one guy
is a standard mode of operation for American foreign services.

Almost every country in the southern hemisphere could have a day they could claim as a national day of mourning courtesy of the US Defense Industry.
