Group sues Everett over Ten Commandments displayBy GENE JOHNSON

A Washington, D.C.-based group sued the city of Everett on Wednesday for refusing to remove a 6-foot tall granite monument bearing the Ten Commandments from city property.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court on behalf of Jesse Card, an Everett resident who says he's offended by the display, which sits in front of the police station.
The group alleges a violation of the First Amendment. Federal courts have repeatedly ruled that the government may not display the Ten Commandments at public buildings. Most recently, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this month that Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore must remove a 2 1/2-ton Ten Commandments display from the lobby of a judicial building.
