Colombia presses Denmark to punish a pro-guerrilla union ahead of terror-funding verdict

BOGOTA, Colombia: Colombia is asking Denmark to punish a labor union for making a small donation to the Andean nation's largest guerrilla group, which the European Union classifies as a terrorist organization.

Colombia's foreign minister made the request Wednesday, a day before a Copenhagen court was expected to rule in a related case against seven Danes charged with raising money for the rebels by T-shirts on the Internet.

"Colombia has officially asked Denmark to initiate an investigation and punish those responsible for financially supporting the FARC" — the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia — Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo said in a statement.

The Danish government had no immediate response.

Denmark's small Wood, Industry, and Building Worker union said it had donated 10,000 kroner (€1,370; US$1,970) to Raul Reyes, a senior FARC commander, to support his insurgency's half-century "fight for freedom."

2. Not sure what I think.
If they are directly supporting FARC, that would seem to be intervening in Colombia's internal affairs. I would think they'd better serve their cause by instead publicizing FARC in a positive light and opposing Danish/NATO support for Colombia's military.

4. Well, the FARC is definitely not 'fighting for freedom'
However, the FARC is no more/less corrupt than Uribe.

I love Colombia, but it is hard to take the corruption out of the people.
As am American, I am amazed at their way of thinking.

I wish to take my kids there to see great grandma's farm but, it is just too dangerous.

5. 'Terror T-shirts' Danes cleared
Seven Danes who sold T-shirts with the logos of Colombian and Palestinian militants have been acquitted of supporting terrorist groups.

They had pledged five euros (£3.50) from each sale to the Farc in Colombia or the PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine).

Both are classified as terrorist groups by the European Union.

The judges ruled that while the groups took part in murders and kidnappings, they were not guilty of terrorism.
