Gonzales named lawyer of the year
Source: AP

Associated Press Writer / December 12, 2007
WASHINGTON—Negative news coverage may have cost former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales his job, but it won him a dubious honor Wednesday from a magazine published by the American Bar Association: Lawyer of the Year.

more stories like thisAdditionally, the ABA Journal named Gonzales' successor, Attorney General Michael Mukasey, as its top lawyer for 2008 -- mostly in anticipation of how often he'll be in the media spotlight for trying to repair the beleaguered Justice Department.

The monthly magazine gave the awards to lawyers who made the most news, said editor and publisher Edward A. Adams.

"Think about Time magazine's Person of the Year," Adams said in an interview. "In years past they've named people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin. So we're not suggesting by these awards that these are the best lawyers in any sense of the word. We are saying they are the most newsworthy -- and perhaps also the best."

24. On the "Hitler = Man of the Year" Time magazine logic. It's not necessarily a compliment.

5. They are trying to be like Time?
How idiotic is that. Time lost so much creditability through its Man of the Year cover. It was almost drummed out of town when "YOU" was nominated last year.

12. If their criteria was which lawyer made the most news, agree with
their decision. The mistake e've made is looking at this as beingan honor! It's obviously NOT!

13. The justice system went FUBAR on Dec. 12, 2000. Fitting, isn't it?
Edited on Wed Dec-12-07 02:59 PM by Democrats_win
How many cases can we name in which injustice is the true victor?

Ken Lay?
QWEST CEO Nachio--still not in jail?
Crack vs. powder cocaine?
Gore v. bush (today is the anniversary of that)
Jena, LA?
Crooked credit card companies committing usury but still taking people to court?

Couple's land stolen by judge in Boulder, CO?

The injustice system names Gonzo "liar" of the year. Priceless!

26. If they had a Scumbucket of the Year award..
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 09:41 AM by Triana
...Gonzo would be in contention with the entire bu$h cabal for that one. But I'm CERTAIN he'd make the top of the list at least once...

The Prize: being stripped naked and publicly doused with buckets of smelly slime for hours, then coated with Jell-O powder and feathers and paraded through the streets with a big neon sign over their head: "Scumbucket of the Year".

Put it on YouTube. Take photos. Put it on billboards. Humiliate the living sh*t out of them.

Well. I can dream, can't I?

28. if newsworthy or influential
is the criteria, then I don't have a problem with his nomination.

If "worthyness" or positivity is the criteria, he's about as far as you can be to getting that award.

Either way, the publishers should have known they'd get mostly criticism for this.
