WASHINGTON - Former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is dropping his appeal in the CIA leak case, his attorney said Monday.

Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of perjury and obstruction for lying about his conversations with reporters about outed CIA operative Valerie Plame

President Bush commuted Libby's 30-month jail sentence in July. Libby paid a $250,000 fine and must serve two years' probation. Libby remains a convicted felon, but Bush could issue a full pardon as his administration winds down.

Wells said he has not discussed a possible pardon with the president and does not know what Bush will do.

Libby was the only person charged in the investigation into the leak of Plame's identity. Nobody was charged with the leak itself, which Plame alleges was politically motivated. Her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, was a vocal critic of the Bush administration's war policy.

3. Now the Dems must call Libby to testify under oath on something .. on anything!
That will force Bu$h to pardon Libby sooner, rather than later. That pardon, which we all know is coming, needs to be a campaign issue for the Democrats in 2008.

4. Too bad. It would have been inteesting to relive his crimes, and instructive
in light of the other cover ups going on.

So, next question, was Libby involved in the destruction of torture evidence too? And, what else can he be charged with?

6. He knows he'll be pardoned
Why spend money on an appeal? "Does not know what Bush will do" my foot.

8. If there's one thing repugs are good at...it's saving the dime.
He doesn't need to clear his "good name", cause he's a criminal and doesn't have one. There's no need to play the game of "outfox the judge", cause he's been pardoned and allowed to wander away to the cave of disgraced x-bushie-administration criminals.

What a pathetic excuse. He'll be following ollie north on the next fox vannity program as a "senior authority on ....some shit". His future is gonna be just fine. The neocons and repug crime family will take care of him.

9. The appeal was just for show.
We all know after all that Bush will give Libby a full pardon as he leaves office as payment for Libby taking the bullet for others in the Bush administration over the intentional whitehouse leak about Valerie Plame working for the CIA.

12. Fitz should have saved a couple of charges.
Perhaps, we could have had a new trial and stretched it out beyond Jan. 20, 2009 and finally have put this crook where he belongs - behind bars.
