Rice explains new US view on Iran nukes
Source: AP

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is working the phones to defend the Bush administration's strategy on Iran and to explain a new U.S. intelligence assessment that Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003, a startling turnabout that contradicted past U.S. conclusions.

Rice said Tuesday it would be a "big mistake" to ease any diplomatic pressure on Iran despite the new U.S. findings.

"It doesn't mean you should take the pressure off," she said en route to Ethiopia to see African leaders. "It puts a premium on diplomatic efforts.

"I continue to see Iran as a dangerous power in international politics," Rice told reporters traveling with her. "At this moment, it doesn't appear to have an active weaponization program. That frankly is good news. But if it causes people to say, 'Oh, well, then we don't need to worry about what the Iranians are doing,' I think we will have made a big mistake."

1. What "diplomatic efforts"?
Isn't this the administration that has consistently refused the overtures of the Iranian government, direct talks and, as much as possible, intermediaries? Duplicitous snakes, hypocrites and liars, every one.

They are so unbelievably full of shit. At least Condi can doublespeak in English so we don't have to listen to Mushmouth again today.

SO, they don't have a weapons program, but we're still gonna badger them.

at a certain point, a fair minded person has to ask, "what do the Iranians have to do to get this damned administration off their ass", and two, "if they're asking too much, should they listen"?

THere comes a point when a side in a dispute asks for too much, and it's obvious to all parties witnessing the dispute. The point has been reached. The U.S. is acting like every other interested state in the world. it's trying to maximize its power vis a vis Iran. Now it will change the story. First a weapons program, now it's nuclear knowledge itself.

They're liars and hypocrites, because plenty of other states have nuclear knowledge and they don't get badgered. This has nothing to do with weapons of mass destruction and more to do with eliminating potential threats to Mid East oil in the future. That and Israel's national security interests.

It's ALWAYS Oil and Israel. Everything else is a freaking lie.

4. They did the same thing with North Korea
Bush Admin: We're not sure they're keeping all terms of all agreements.

Press: Uh, there's only one agreement.

Bush Admin: What we meant to say was that we're not sure they'll keep all terms of all potential future agreements.

12. The actual situation is the reverse of the * position: Iran will continue to pressure the US in Iraq
Iran's well executed political offensive in Iraq continues to consolidate its gains. Meanwhile, the US continues to sponsor (reformed) terrorists and Baathists in Anbar. What a "miracle". :eyes:
