Story of Rudy's 'Mistress' Fund Has Legs
Source: E&P

NEW YORK Ben Smith, who broke the story about former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's alleged use or misuse of city funds related to his extramarital affair with Judith Nathan, returned late Thursday with a followup.

He noted that Giuliani and his senior aides Thursday "blamed anonymous bookkeepers for his administration's practice of billing the travel expenses for his personal security detail to obscure city agencies.

"But a top aide was unable to say why Giuliani’s administration and his successor's rebuffed questions from the city's top fiscal watchdog in 2001 and 2002. City Comptroller William Thompson said Thursday his auditors were 'stonewalled' by the Giuliani administration when they inquired about the unusual billing procedures, which he called 'disturbing.'

"Instead, Giuliani and his aides focused their attention on the issue of whether the unlikely divisions of the mayor's office had been reimbursed — not why the expenses were billed to out-of-the-way agencies such as the New York City Loft Board in the first place."

5. Giving back the Bank's money after robbing them
Does NOT mitigate the crime. We're talking about obvious fraud and corruption here and whether or not Rudolph paid the money back is not the issue.

6. You are correct there. And if he paid it back as they say
then he admitted he STOLE it in the first place. And that he knew he was doing wrong.

4. Rudy is a taker
He is one of those politicians that think the government oews him a living and he will take all he can get. as long as he is in the employ of a local, state, or federal office, he will charge them for everything he does, personal or job related. We have too many of these types in our government. They should be spending more of their time trying to save us money than spending it!

I think politicians, by their nature, expect someone else to pay for every whim they come up with, legitimate or not. People like Jack Abramhoff used this fatal flaw in politicians to buy their votes, and any time we can identify one of our leaders exploiting this venue, we should get rid of them. Ooops, there goes ninety percent of our Congress!

7. Last night on the news Rudy said that;
The police department had paid back the city agencies for the money
they were paid to protect his mistress and the story was a political
"hit job." And that they billed the city agencies because the police dept. was
slow paying the bills so this way was so much better.

To me this raises two more ?s

1) What is the NYC police dept. doing being Rudy's mistress cab and
protection service?

b) If Rudy did this "off the books" what else did he do?

Or fraud? Could it also be embezzlement? Theft?

15. I think "Theft in Office"
Would be the right charge.

And I don't think the people of NYC are happy that they were paying
for Rudy's mistress taxi & security service.

25. There is the issue of paying for the police protection from the wrong funds.
In most if not all govt agencies that can't be done. In this case it was intended to mislead and hide the true purpose of the payments.

9. Rudy is toast
He was toast before he started running. This guy is scum. He has way to many bodies that were improperly burried. They are all starting to surface. Republicans are total scum and Rudy is the "creme de la creme" of the pond scum. He is as bad as they come.. The American people have begun to wise up....

over Al Gore making a fundraising call using a government phone and the degree to which the RW castigated him, tried to paint him as unfit to serve

23. Yep. Did somebody say "Bimbo Eruption"?
Did somebody say "his wife is Fair Game"? Or in this case, altered slightly to mistress. Or concubine. Or strumpet. Or courtesan. Or backstage girl.

I do kinda like "booty-gate," though!

After everything our side had to endure because of Monica, hey, I'm glad they get their turn!

Let's make the most of it. IMPERATIVE that we do!

I now use the rule - if this were the other way around, what would the republi-CONS be doing with it? We should do THE SAME THING, if not MORE. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander.

24. I like to call it RootyBootyGate!
I expected all kinds of stuff to come out as New Hampshire gets near. Ghouliani's numbers have remained steady for the last six months, his rivals need to smear him at the opportune moment, we seem to be reaching that time.

Ah, it will be so lovely for the holidays!
