ReutersBAGHDAD, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Iraqi security forces detonated two car bombs near the office of the leader of the main Sunni Arab bloc on Thursday, but the politician denied a security official's comments that they were found inside the complex.
Brigadier-General Qassim Moussawi told Reuters the car bombs were discovered inside the office complex of Adnan al-Dulaimi when security forces chased a suspected fugitive involved in a separate shooting incident into the yard.
Moussawi said the detonations destroyed Dulaimi's office, but did not hurt anyone.
Dulaimi, the leader of the Sunni Accordance Front, which quit the Shi'ite-led government of Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in August, insisted the bombs were found nearby.
"The cars were not detonated (in) the office, but on a sidestreet behind the compound. The security forces should have towed the cars away (because the explosion) burned nearby houses," Dulaimi told Reuters.
The incident is sure to inflame tensions between the Accordance Front and Maliki's administration.Read more:
