Howard begs Australians for another term
Source: Monsters & Critics

Sydney - Prime Minister John Howard begged Australians Thursday to change their minds and vote in his government for a fifth term at Saturday's parliamentary election, charging that Labor rival Kevin Rudd lacked substance and would blight the booming economy.

Howard's Liberal-led coalition (the conservative party) has trailed in all of the more than 100 opinion polls conducted since Rudd became Labor leader in December. Labor promises to continue almost all of Howard's policies in a me-too ploy that has worked wonders for its electoral prospects.

. . .

With two campaigning days left, the Liberals were caught distributing bogus campaign leaflets encouraging Muslims to vote Labor because it was soft on terrorism.

Howard, 68, was swift with condemnation, saying, 'This is no part of my campaign. It's no part of the Liberal Party's campaign. I don't want anything to do with it.'

Liberal Party members caught with the leaflets in a Sydney suburb where applications are in to build an Islamic school claimed the leaflets were a 'joke.' They will be investigated by the Australian Electoral Commission.

3. I don't see any right-wingers sticking their heads into this thread to bitch & shriek about a FIFTH
TERM for this clown who has spent the last few years as Bush's volunteer puppet, helping to prop up an evil administration.

Why is that? Doesn't it show Howard is a DICTATOR, seeking yet the dreaded FIFTH TERM?

Why is it right-wing leaders get pass and a pat on the butt from right-wing Americans and a call to arms against leftists seeking the same opportunities? How does a FIFTH TERM not prove he's a dictator, yet prove to the howlers among us that Hugo Chavez intends to take over the world?

to tide him over the next year or so, anyway...

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

It doesn't help matters that they tried to balance it out by taking on Markos from Daily Kos, either.

Poor Mr Howard. KKKarl won't be needing any thugs now that he's an A-list journalist. :sarcasm:

14. Last figures show Howard needs a miracle
JOHN HOWARD faces annihilation in tomorrow's election, with Labor on track to record one of the biggest swings against a government since World War II, the latest Herald/Nielsen poll shows.

Labor leads the primary vote by 48 per cent to 40 per cent, giving it a two-party-preferred lead of 57 per cent to 43 per cent.

This represents a 10 per cent swing to Labor since the 2004 election, which is more than twice the 4.8 per cent swing Labor needs tomorrow to win the minimum 16 seats required to form government.

If preferences were allocated by how they fell in 2004, Labor would be leading by 56 per cent to 44 per cent on a two-party basis.

15. although a second poll out today
Edited on Thu Nov-22-07 04:16 PM by anakie
shows Labor's lead at 52-48; numbers that should still see Labor scrape over the line but 48 is the number Howard's Liberals think they may just be able to hang on with. 24 hours to go.

"An AC Nielsen poll gives Labor a massive 14-point lead, after preferences, but a Galaxy poll has the ALP leading by just four points - the best result for the Coalition this year."

Peace

on edit

A third poll out tomorrow indicates Labor 54.5-45.5, a comfortable margin for Rudd and pretty much what the polls have been saying all year.
