Demand in Spain for Venezuela Coup Info

Madrid, Nov 19 (Prensa Latina) A Spanish deputy demanded on Monday that the government provide information whether previous President Jose Maria Aznar backed the April 2002 coup attempt in Venezuela and if King Juan Carlos knew of the coup in advance.

Francisco Garrido, of Partido de los Verdes, member of the socialist congressional group, recalled that in November 2004 Foreign Affairs Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said the then governing PP (Popular Party) supported the attempted coup against Chavez.

The legislator asked the government if it would make available documentary information on the participation and awareness of the then PP executive (Aznar) with respect to the coup, according to a report from EFE agency.

Likewise, he requests explanations about the diplomatic documentation on the contacts of then Ambassador to Caracas Manuel Viturro with the coup participants and the US Embassy.

2. Wow...Spain doing a little "dirty work" for the bushies?
This wouldn't surprise me in the least. They were part of the "coalition of the silly" that went in to Iraq, but finally caved in to pressure from their citizens to get the hell out of that illegal war and waste of precious life and treasure. We can't seem to get it.

This wouldn't surprise me in the least...<spit>

12. That little train explosion a few years ago backfired on the
Bush power nexus. The perps were traced to Italy, I think Berlusconi's bunch. Europeans are savvy about this stuff.

3. The Partido de los Verdes is the main Green
coalition party with representation in the Spanish parliament (and much more representation at more local levels).

It seemed pretty clear at the time that the US, UK and Spanish governments were in on the attempted coup.

8. They're part of the governing coalition in the Generalitat

of Catalonia - the Catalan Autonomous Regional Government - in coalition with other non-nationalist parties of the (real) left and the mainstream Socialist Party; and (only just) with the left-republican-nationalists (separatists).

Elsewhere in Spain and at national level there are varying degrees of cooperation between Greens and the Left and also with the governing Socialist party, mainly thanks to an agreement with whom they have voices in the parliament (Las Cortes) and in the Senate.

They've also been very instrumental in getting that little issue about CIA Rendition Flights in the EU investigated at national and international levels...

If only this kind of cooperative, more widely participative politics could be an option in the USA...

5. Knights of Malta in Venezuela
Just like the 'Dirty Wars' in Latin America, the SMOM was deeply involved in the attempted coup in Venezuela. Aznar's daughter goes to an Opus Dei school and they are peas in a pod with the KOM. It can be assumed that the King is one as are many of the Spanish elites.

My call is that Aznar and Bush were in cahoots to seize the Venezuelan oil fields and that it was a parallel operation with Iraq.

6. The timing of this demand is interesting because I think your old pals
at CIA (along with their cohorts in other agencies) are stirring up trouble in Venezuela again right now. They're using the upcoming 12/2 referendum in Venezuela as a spoon. So, it's interesting that the old coup comes up now.

And I notice that Mr. Chavez is spending a lot of time away from home and in high profile meetings.

9. Despite Your Propaganda
Spaniards do hold their government accountable. Again the King is a figure head and makes no policy. Jose Maria Aznar is a member of the right wing party. I would not be surprised if he helped the US with the attempted coup.

16. Indeed!
No wonder there was such indignation at that meeting.

This is good. Very good.
