Kucinich to host two-day "Constitutional Convention"
Source: Plain Dealer

Democratic presidential candidate/Cleveland congressman Dennis Kucinich was too tied up with congressional business tonight to appear on his campaign's new Internet television channel - www.kucinichtv.com - so campaign manager Mike Klein filled in with an address to Kucinich campaign supporters on impeachment and the Constitution.

Klein announced Kucinich will host a two-day "Constitutional Convention" in last week of January where at least one delegate from each state "will reaffirm the Constitution that we have decided is worth defending and fighting for."

"A roadmap will come out of this to move forward and move as a team, as a group, as a nation, to protect the Constitution," Klein told nearly 600 people who watched his presentation.

"People are angry, they're upset, they want things to improve," Klein continued. "It's fairly shocking that none of the other presidential candidates will support impeachment."

12. Kucinich is confused
A constitutional convention is for proposing amendments. He is using the phrase for PR purposes. Worse, Kucinich has not come out in favor of having the nation's first Article V convention -- that we have a right to have. Learn more at www.foavc.org and become a member...

2. This is a pretty big step, another spinal adjustment?.
I can recall several times over the last 35+ years when the Corporate Media told their readers and listeners that having a Constitutional Convention was NOT a good thing.

3. A real constitutional convention is scary as hell...
as in, if a constitutional convention is called, then the delegates can rewrite any and all of the constitution any way they want. That's how I remember it from poli-sci, anyway.

4. I don't know what Kucinich intends, those were not his words.

There's a writer over at OpEdNews that has been calling for an Article V for some time, he claims that "all 50 states" have petitioned under Article V multiple times, and alleges that congress hasn't been following the constitution.

5. Yes, it can be a signal for revolution
and revolution is potentially a bloodbathe and greatly uncontrollable. "See you on the barricades" sounds so romantic. It is nothing of the kind.

7. You recall correctly. Thank goodness this is a CC in Name Only...
...not anywhere close to the real deal.

In a genuine CC, nothing would be safe. Nothing.

11. It's currently a CC in name only . . .
Which is about the only way to stealth in a real CC as no one in Washington would willingly allow one - way too many sacred cows to be gored there.

But it would be refreshing to hear a large number of people pick up the constitution, and agree that it's inherently a good document and deserves to continue to be the law of the land. And to follow that with a President that agrees that he is to carry out his duties with respect to the Constitution, and means it. . .

13. You realize of course that states would have to ratify the new articles?
The delegates at such a new convention would vote on articles that would then have to be ratified by 3/4 of the states. This might actually be a good way to clarify the president's war powers, as well as guaranteeing more rights and cleaning up elections and voting.

9. The point of all this is, I think
to raise awareness of the Constitution and what it means. It is only in this way that people can realize what Bush is trying to take from them.
