1. Subdural hematoma
He's likely to make a full recovery. It isn't that serious a procedure.

Good thing too (obviously it's a GOOD thing from a human perspective - I mean this from a political viewpoint and don't intend to be morbid) since he's probably the only Democrat in MT and would be replaced by a pretty conservative Republican who would instantly inherit a "safe R" seat.

8. repukes are in serious trouble in Montana right now
that's my home state - the repuke governor has an approval rating in the mid-20s ha ha - a dem will most likely win in 2004...

9. I wish I could buy that.
But the unpopular governor (Martz) isn't going to be on the ballot. Schweitzer would have clobbered her, but the only poll I've see shows him behind a few points and shrub won that state by 25% last time.

10. she's so completely mis-managed the state and brought shame
and scandal on the pukes doorstep...schweitzer has name recognition, money, and is a charismatic guy - there is a hell of a good chance he will win...

and Montana has lots of up and coming democratic candidates that are now in the state legislature...it wasn't so long ago that dems ruled the state of MT, many in Montana have the feeling it is swinging back...

Baucus is beloved in MT...so is Representative Williams another Dem, now a teacher at U of MT...

Sorry, Frodo, this is just like those econ debates you always get into...you lose cuz you back the side of evil...

11. but hey don't take my word for it FRODO
here's the analysis of the non-paritisan Rothenberg Report:

"While the Republicans are currently organizing and fund raising, Democrat Brian Schweitzer has been sucking up any and all campaign air available. Schweitzer, 48, "never really stopped running ," according to one local observer. The Democrat has raised over $500,000 since June 30 and has "an ability to generate earned media everywhere he goes." Schweitzer does not currently have a primary opponent, but may benefit from at least a minor one so that he does not have to forfeit campaign funds allocated for the primary.

Without Martz as the nominee, Republicans may actually have a chance to hold the seat. But they have held the governorship for almost 20 years and it looks like a prime target for a Democratic takeover. Lean Takeover."

LEAN: TAKEOVER

and another one bites the dust....

12. Actually, I've always thought Rothenberg leans a little right.
So this is a good report.

I still think it's going to be tough. Montana isn't a 50-50 state. Even in a hypothetical matchup with Martz, Schweitzer only got 52% in the poll. In a run against Brown it was 40-38 Brown.

I'm not saying we can't win, just that I'd rate it tossup at best.

But hey, "tossup" in Montana? That's worth cheering about.

14. This is going to be a good year for Dems in Montana
the R's can only screw things up for so long before people start to notice.

3. So if they had to operate to relieve pressure on Shrub's brain...
...this is too easy, too cheap, Jackpine. You're better than that...

13. Shrub wouldn't even need an operation...
...to relieve pressure on his brain. All he'd need is an enema!
