Dollar ( CDN) soars beyond $1.09 U.S.
Source: The Star.

On a day when the Canadian dollar soared to a record, with oil and gold prices in tow, the Bank of Canada continued to pour cold water on hopes for a cut in interest rates.

The potential risks – and benefits – of the higher dollar are greater now than two weeks ago when the central bank made its last report, Paul Jenkins, senior deputy governor of the Bank of Canada, said in a speech in New York yesterday.

But the US's $13 trillion economy is still the biggest and best.

12. I just looked in my dresser....
and I have $137 in Canadian currency left over from previous trips north of the border (some of it from decades ago). Back then it wasn't even worth cashing in, I just threw it in the drawer and forgot about it. Looks like it's time to take all those pretty colored bills with the Queen's picture to the bank! :)

13. IIRC the $CDN is stable compared to the Euro
It`s not our dollar that`s soaring, it`s yours that`s in freefall.

The headlines in the Canadian press have been screaming Oh My Gawd! Our dollar is too strong! for months now. It's getting on my nerves.

(To my American friends -- these are "Canadian Tire money" -- coupons you get for shopping at that store up here. They are printed on currency-type paper, though a bit smaller than real bills.)

The Canadian dollar briefly soared to new heights past $1.10 US early Wednesday before taking a sharp drop later in the day.

Shortly after the start of trading in North America, the loonie was up more than 1.75 cents US at $1.1027 US as the U.S. dollar sank even further on world currency markets.
