Judiciary panel votes to recommend Mukasey's confirmation to full Senate

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Judiciary Committee voted to advance the nomination of Attorney General-designate Michael Mukasey to the Senate floor Tuesday, virtually ensuring his confirmation before Thanksgiving.

The 11-8 vote came after two key Democrats accepted his vow to enforce any law Congress might enact against waterboarding.

However, committee Chairman Patrick Leahy called Mukasey's promise disingenuous. "Unsaid, of course, is the fact that any such prohibition would have to be enacted over the veto of this president," said Leahy, D-Vt..

1. Question: Can't one of our fine Senator's put a 'hold' on this nomination.
I know I've heard some version of this being done before, 'blue-slip' or something like that but not clear on the procedure or details.

3. Reid will ignore it.
We are screwn. Torture and indefinite secret detention without charges has been greenlit by our 'Democratic' Congress. Citizens beware.

2. What is Schumer's stake in this?
Didn't he propose Mukasey in the first place?

5. Schumer and Feinstein have blood on their hands now
They should have let Bush recess appoint this war-criminal in the making. At least the Dems would not have been complicit.

I guarantee, within weeks, Bush will say Schumer doesn't believe we torture either, or he would not have voted for Mukasey.

I will not give one penny to any Democrats who vote for this man and who vote for more funding for Bush' war. THAT is the next battle.
