Alaskan youth testifies on the Hill — and draws Limbaugh's ire

Erika Bolstad | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — Charlee Lockwood has never heard of Rush Limbaugh or listened to his radio program, and perhaps it's just as well.

On Monday, the talk radio king told listeners that Democrats were exploiting the 18-year-old Yupik Eskimo, and that her emotional testimony that day in front of a U.S. House committee on global warming made him "really want to puke. I just want to throw up."

"It's the Democrats exploiting a young child, ladies and gentlemen, for the advancement of a political issue that will grow the size of government and increase their control over everyone," Limbaugh told listeners of the 600 stations nationwide that carry his show.

Lockwood didn't let Limbaugh's comments faze her. Her upbringing in the community of St. Michael included learning "about respect and treating people the way you want to be treated," Lockwood said, during a brief interview just before she got on a plane to return to her village on Alaska's west coast.

1. the global climate change are out in full force!

And she had plenty of people willing to defend her.

"For Rush Limbaugh to make fun of young people coming in and trying to be a part of the political process, it really shows a disdain for political discourse and for the role of young people in that political discourse," said Eben Burnham-Snyder, a spokesman for the chairman of the committee, Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass.

18 is a child? What about those 18 year old army enlistees?
Are they children Rush? If so...why are the chickenhawks using
children to fight their wars?

18. Molly Ivins on Rush
Lyin' Bully

Commentary: Instead of picking on someone his own size, Rush consistently targets dead people, little girls, and the homeless--none of whom can fight back.

Cheaper than One Ply-By Insanad
While browsing at a neighborhood yard sale I saw a stack of books written or inspired by the bloated corpulent gas bag known as Rush Limbaugh. I laughed at the large stack, selling for .25 cents per book and I mentioned that his books were cheaper than one-ply toilet paper, but that I would not want to wipe my nether region with anything so full of rancid acid and poisonous methane fumes that would deposit more feces on my arse than it may remove. My husband laughed and then a local shrew piped up proclaiming how much she enjoyed Rush's show, "Otherwise, how would I know what was going on in the world?". I judiciously responded, "Your devotion to his program reflects much more about the listener than the purveyor of such tripe.". She snorted, slowly processing the jibe, and then nodded, "I guess it does. uhe uhe.".

The piece of all this that haunts me to the point of distraction and frustration is that the ignorant, underemployed, easily duped, and incredibly bigoted people in this nation seem to nod in unison to the noxious waves of sewage that spew so freely from the mouth of this grotesque primate. Some could not blame such a blob from capitalizing on the stupidity and ignorance of so many foolish Americans with the free press that he manipulates and prostitutes, but I am grossly ashamed that so many of my fellow citizens give any listening time or allow such nasty filth into their homes. These are the same kind of people who would decry pornography, abortion, or other sad reflections of peoples choices, but they willingly allow and welcome this toxic rubbish to fill their homes, their cars, and their thought processes. Then, to add to the cloud of fatal fumes, they extol those same opinions, narrow bias, bigoted mis-representations that they hear from him, in some unifying flood of dumb blind lemurs, all happily flowing to the cliff that leads to bitter contention, cruel judgement, and twisted manipulation of information and ideas. Shame on you dittoheads.

Your devotion to anything from such a vile slob as Rush Limbaugh only causes intelligent, creative, thoughtful and pro-active people to disrespect you and everything you stand for. I'm embarrassed for you. I'm completely disinterested in your excuses for listening to him, (i.e. "he's funny, or I only listen to see what Hilary Clinton is doing wrong, or He has some good ideas"). Whatever the excuse, it's shameful and reflects your own bigotry, your own ignorance, and especially lack of creativity or ability to think for yourself.

To those on this site that find Rush Limbaugh as repulsive and bigotted as I do, I welcome your responses. Those who need his vile words to justify your own bigotry I have no patience or interest in your excuses.

So (channeling Limbaugh) she's not as savvy as us regular white folk, you know? It is, at best, a demeaning paternalism, but let's call it by its proper name: racism.

4. Sen. Stevens here:
On Monday, she and other students met with a staffer in Alaska Rep. Don Young's office, and with both of Alaska's senators, Republicans Lisa Murkowski and Ted Stevens.

Stevens hadn't listened to the Limbaugh program Monday afternoon, although an aide burned a CD for him to listen to later at home. The senator had no comment on the program, said Aaron Saunders, a spokesman for Stevens.

The young people from Alaska spent about an hour Monday engaged in a "lively and frank conservation about climate change and global warming" with Stevens, Saunders said.

The senator and the students weren't in total agreement, Saunders said. Stevens has repeatedly questioned the causes of global warming, but acknowledges that climate change has had a disastrous effect on the state's remote villages. Last month, Stevens accompanied the chairwoman of the Disaster Recovery subcommittee, Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., to Shishmaref to survey the damage from coastal erosion.

8. That corrupt Stevens should be ashamed of himself.
As he led the republican charge to distribute more oil money to the natives (read payola to drill in the ANWR), their homes were melting from underneath them.

Our tax dollars go toward Ted Stevens employing an aide, who spends valuable time recording Lowbrow's three hour show and burning it onto CD?

And Republican'ts claim to be fiscally responsible.

Respect for elders, even when they don't deserve it is a given with bush folks. Nice girl doing good for all of us. What more can anyone want?

5. How are they exploiting him?
The U.S. House of Representatives is a legally founded body, you know. Didn't know testifying in front of them was automatically some kind of issue.

Then again, considering the source, I think RL's just nervous any time he hears the word "testify."

6. Democrats exploiting a young child of 18 years asking them to speak and Rush has a meltdown, yet...
his master GWB can send 18 year olds to be slaughtered for his illegal war and Rush just smiles?

Rush must be thinking "what's wrong with these idiot Eskimos, haven't the republicans given them enough money to keep their mouths shut and only speak in favor of drilling in the ANWR? I'll have to speak to that Ted Stevens about this low life".

20. Put him on an ice floe off the coast of Alaska, without his teeth
I've heard that theres an old Inuit tradition that when someone is really old and can no longer contribute, that in a gesture of kindness they are placed on an icefloe and sent adrift. In short order they sleep and freeze to death and are left to return to the sea.

I say that Rush Limbaugh is certainly past any usefullness to the world and should be placed on an icefloe without his teeth. Unfortunately he'd still be able to vocalize his hot noxious gaseous bloated opinions and the methane would escape to the ionisphere causing an even bigger hole in the ozone, possibly adding to the global warming in the Northern Hemisphere and raising the sea levels, flooding even more towns and villages along the coasts.

Perhaps it's time that someone put him on the pig hoist and made bacon and pork rinds from him to feed to the redneck idjits that listen to him. Smoke him and Serve him up!!!

12. Since when is an 18-year-old a "young child"?
:eyes:

And why does Charlee Lockwood need to be defended for talking to lawmakers? Rush Limbaugh acolytes were screaming that their idol was being censored when Harry Reid and others wrote the letter on Limbaugh's "phony soldiers" rhetoric. Yeah, it must be truly hard for Rush Limbaugh to enjoy his First Amendment rights when he is forced to be paid millions of dollars for sitting on his anal-cyst afflicted buttocks and shooting his mouth off.

Limbaugh, thinking he's invincible will say or do something that will cross the line of public decency, and his sad excuse of a career will mercifully end.

I think it's sad that such an event didn't occur when the man got caught sending his maid on drug runs to Denny's to feed his oxycotin addiction, but rest assured, it will happen.

The man's thought process is like that of serial killers, who taunt the police until one day they go overboard and they get caught.

37. Addicted to criticism
The presence of Limbaugh, Coulter, Beck and company seem to go with these strange times. They seem to have no other purpose than to misdirect and derail discontent of working people away from the true causes of their malaise- corporate takeover and the erosion of the democratic processes. They feed on anger and transform it into bigotry and mysogeny, and in this way prevent a whole segment of the population from constructively or effectively responding to their anger. They encourage the most primitive reptilian polar forms of thinking which directly serve the purposes of this authoritarian administration.
These personalities are like a cancer and are very destructive to independent thought, creativity and innocence (which I define as our essence, our purity of being). Although I of course support freedom of speech, I think that it is a sign of a healthy society to keep these destructive voices in the fringes, where they belong. To be endlessly critical and insulting is just plain unbalanced and unhealthy for a society to endure.
