Obama Introduces Iran Measure
Democrat Obama to Introduce Resolution Saying Bush Has No Authority for War With Iran
By NEDRA PICKLER
The Associated Press
WASHINGTON

Democrat Barack Obama introduced a Senate resolution late Thursday that says President Bush does not have authority to use military force against Iran, the latest move in a debate with presidential rival Hillary Rodham Clinton about how to respond to that country's nuclear ambitions.

Clinton's campaign accused Obama of playing politics instead of taking a leadership role from the outset.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the Illinois senator drafted the measure in an effort to "nullify the vote the Senate took to give the president the benefit of the doubt on Iran."

Burton was referring to an amendment sponsored by Sens. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, that passed 76-22 on Sept. 26 and designates Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization.

Clinton was the only Senate Democrat running for president to support the measure, and her rivals have argued that Bush could use it to justify war with Iran. Clinton insists her vote would not support military strikes and instead was a vote for stepped-up diplomacy.

2. Doesn't vote no on Lieberman's amend - doesn't sign last weeks letter to Bush - doesn't join Webb in
his almost identical bill - a bill Hillary joined as co-sponsor (indeed there are already more legislation than Webb's bill filed that does the same as Obama's new bill).

I am at a loss to understand why he had to file his own bill when could simply have joined Webb's bill.

3. He is my Senator ....
It makes me happy, that is why I sent him to Washington to pass legislation.
Bush ignores the U. S. Constitution on a regular basis, I doubt he will pay much attention to a Democratic senator's letter!:eyes:

4. He also said "All options remain on the table" if he was elected president
when it comes to 'dealing with' Iran.
Hillary said the same thing also

6. Who do you trust with "all options on the table" Obama or Dumbya?
There was a time when we did not need to pass bills that said specifically "The president can not behave like a jackass and declare a war of choice against x, y and z." It was just assumed that he (or she) would behave like a grown up.

8. You know what, you hit the nail right smack on the head. Everyone
understimates (or is it 'misunderestimates'?) what a fix we're in. And we got over a year until those really scarey criminal bastards MIGHT be gone. I only say MIGHT because I've become absolutely paranoid and I don't put a friggin' thing past these guys.

9. I'm with you. We are never going to make it through another year with the Bush cabal.
I appreciate this by Obama, but I think we are in deep trouble now, beyond any resolutions.

Bush today was nuts in his speech. We are talking maybe three months to attacking Iran, and four to five months to martial law.

10. Thanks for that beautiful picture of JFK!
It brings back so many happy and sad memories and I was fortunate to be there.

It is so heartbreaking to think about what we have come to be and where we are going.

I truly believe that assassination was the beginning of a slippery slope to the cabal that is destroying our democracy!

11. Dangerous and Slippery Slope.
That would imply that Bush does have the authority now....Not to mention for anything else he may want to do unless congress specifically stops him.
