Poll Shows Vermonters In Favor of Impeachment
WCAX Poll Results For Impeachment, Presidential Candidates

Burlington, Vermont - October 31, 2007

This year's Town Meeting Day addressed an issue far broader than the local school budget -- should Vermonters call for the impeachment of the president and vice president? Thirty-seven towns voted yes.

A poll conducted for Channel 3 News posed the same question to 400 likely voters. 61% said they would be in favor of Congress beginning impeachment proceedings against President Bush. 33% opposed it, and 6% were not sure.

The numbers for Vice President Cheney were slightly different. 64% favor impeachment, while 31% oppose it.

"I'm really overjoyed by this," said Jimmy Leas, a South Burlington lawyer who has been a vocal advocate of impeachment. "Your poll really shows that here in Vermont, nearly two-thirds of the public understand we have a serious problem, and the way to address this is to remove the officials who are usurping power."

"The impeachment results are somewhat surprising, frankly, to me," political scientist Eric Davis said. "Even though their terms are ending in a little bit more than a year, a majority of Vermonters don't want to even see them remaining in office until January 20, 2009."

1. Because they understand that if the power remains unchecked with
the installment of the next President, we would be at the mercy of the next 's'elected official to give those powers back. Also, VT is a strange assortment of old timers with land value traditions and small town politics combined with a newer "hippy-dippy" group that moves in for the pristine quality of life.

Odd mix, but somehow it works. Clean, crisp air seems to clear the brain better. I always feel better when I go back home for a visit.

Actually, Douglas is on his third term
and where I vote, we use pencil and paper. And much as I dislike Douglas, he's hardly Mitt Romney.

25. Yes, where I used to vote, it was hand count. I would think only the
really big towns like Brattleboro, Bulington, and Bennington use the computer. My town had 3 to 500 people in it. When I was in college, I voted absent tee... Not that it mattered much, but at least I had a voice for local politics that effected my parents and ultimately me. Now I'm in Florida. So, I guess my vote is rendered useless again...

And there is a huge difference between a VT person who is Republican and George Bush. A VT republican is normally concerned with fiscal responsibility and letting people be. That goes a long way for a lot of people. VT people take care of each other. You don't fart without someone knowing about it. If someone is sick or in need, collections are taken up at church for a few weeks. A lot of kids take summer jobs haying and doing other farm work needs. My sister is marrying one of these very country-fied persons---at the same time, he went to a trade school for 2 years and re-built his car to run on vegetable oil. My sister hates it, she stinks after riding in the car (like stale McDonald's french fries). Anyway... its pretty cool place to live.

Because I grew up there, I know how to cook from scratch, change a tire and oil, mow grass, garden, sew, drive a stick, drive in the snow and ice, and have an extremely great knowledge about the world and politics... surprisingly, a lot of liberal ideas are conservative ideals... the media has blurred so many lines and values that up is down and day is night.

7. I don't want them in office for one more second!
a majority of Vermonters don't want to even see them remaining in office until January 20, 2009.

Me neither! I want them gone now, this minute! The amount of damage they can do in their remaining time is terrifying to contemplate.

It's little thing cold holding the assholes accountable--not just waiting for them to eventually go away. Why is that surprising?

15. As one who lives here in Vermont, I object to this poll
The results are clearly invalid. I simply cannot believe that 39% of us are opposed to impeachment ;)

I don't even know a loyal bushie in this state (there are some, somewhere, I know, but I haven't met them). And about the only people I've seen publicly speaking out against impeachment are Democratic Party leaders and our congressional delegation.

i live in a pretty "lefty" town and I can tell you there are quite a few bush supporters and non-impeachment types around here. I still see W stickers on cars quite often.
