Sen. John Warner back in hospital
Source: USA Today/AP

Sen. John W. Warner was hospitalized for the third time in a month Wednesday for what his office called a "low-grade infection" related to his treatment for a minor heart problem.

Doctors discovered an infection in the 80-year-old senator's thigh during a follow-up appointment at Inova Fairfax Hospital, according to a statement from Warner's office.

He was admitted for treatment and observation and should be able to return to the Senate next week, the release said.

Warner, a Republican, announced in August he would not seek a sixth term next year.

That's the first thing that flashed through my mind: the "what if's".

Can't help it. I automatically went there. Same as when we were all calculating the "what if's" regarding larry craig. I wish him well. But, hey, if he resigned early for health reasons...

4. Never cared for his politics much, but I wish him a recovery, a fast one,
and offer a tip of the hat to whatever it is in him that Elizabeth Taylor saw as virtue.

If it registered with her, it must be something pretty good, since she's no fool.
