US House Panel Chairman Thomas Apologizes To Democrats
WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)

In an emotion-choked speech, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas, R-Calif., apologized Wednesday for enlisting U.S. Capitol Police to evict Democrats from a committee room Friday.

While maintaining that it was appropriate to call police to restore order in the committee, Thomas said it was "just plain stupid" to ask police to evict Democrats from an adjoining room. Democrats had been meeting in that room - the committee library - during the panel's consideration of a pension bill Friday morning. ---

Democrats have sought twice to have the House admonish Thomas.

Republicans have held ranks to defeat those efforts, voting 170-143 on Friday and 223-193 earlier on Wednesday to defeat a formal resolution offered by Democrats on the House floor. ---

1. "Just Plain Stupid"...
that definitely describes Scott "Fruitcake" McInnis.

2. This guy thinks he's going to be the next Gingrich
Giving all these speeches on C-Span to an empty House Chamber. Fruitcake seems like a proper description to me.

4. Not a chance- he's done.
An earlier Faux article said he left a mtg in Hastert's office in tears and a repub said he doubted Thomas would be able to hold his chairmanship.

3. I think they should press charges against him.
What would happen if police were called every time things got hot.

8. It wouldn't make a difference.
Thomas is a profoundly arrogant human being. It must have absolutely killed him to have to sink down to the level of mere mortals and apologize like that. I interviewed him once a long time ago when he was still a relative lightweight in congress, and he didn't bother trying to hide his disdain for the media. Usually politicians are on their best behavior with media people, but what I remember about Thomas is he never smiled once, and he acted like the interview was a waste of his time, even though it was during what passed for his campaign. The guy's an arrogant freak. It really is too bad he holds one of the safest seats in the House.

6. What's disgusting is...
how all the other Pugs closed ranks behind him. If we could get this kind of unity from the Dems. Just goes to show the strength in numbers. Even when the bastards are wrong they get support from the entire herd and thus prevail.

Just think, when Dems are right, if they got as much support all the good they could do. Ah to be in Fantasyland. :eyes:

21. Yes, but,
all of the Republicans who were defending Thomas look stupid now. He retreated and left them out on a limb.

7. Good. Maybe the rest of the Repuke jerks in Congress will learn
some respect for our democratic-republic instead of trying to tear it down.

9. Alligator tears.
Thomas is an unctious, arrogant, condescending ass. If he has regrets it was that he couldn't have the opposition imprisoned. In committee meetings, he peremptorily shuts down the minority at their exact time limit, even instructing witnesses to not reply, and uses a far softer measure for his fellow Repugnants and sycophantic witnesses.

They don't seem to like galant behavior.

more likely somebody threatened his job... that's all.

18. I'm just wondering
Who really gives a rat's ass what freepers and their inbred ilk think about Thomas or anyone or anything else?

Besides, as someone else pointed out, there's nothing gallant about this worm, and he deserves all the obscurity that will be coming his way soon.

The guy must have majored in drama.

In fact, the guy is a huge drama queen IMO. Put a
silk kimono and fuzzy slippers on him and he'd be right
at home.

This was an act where the pain came from actually
having to do it.

Tears of joy...The sob realizes he lost his power. He's done for.

He stepped over the line. He showed how RADICAL he really is one too many times.

Good bye, Thomas. Don't let the screen door hit you on the way out!!

Halle-damn-lula. <sic>

17. I, for one, was impressed w/it -
- at least it was the best apology - in the truest sense of an apology - I've EVER seen come from a repuke.

I thought he was genuine when I heard it on the radio driving home.

Is there really no chance that his contrition was genuine?

Is he really that much of a scum-bag prior to this in ALL his other endeavors/utterances?

Taken by itself, it was really something.
