New poll: US split 50-50 on many issues
columbia) Jan. 6, 2004 - The survey of American attitudes reveals splits on key values. It is the work of widely respected pollster John Zogby and political consultant Bradley O'Leary.

O'Leary outlined some of the differences, "Gun ownership is one, attending church versus not attending church is another one, investing in the stock market or 401K's is another almost evenly split."

George Bush won the red states, including South Carolina in 2000 and Al Gore the blue. The pollsters say red state voters tend to be more religious, with more conservative views on everything from abortion to gay marriage.

O'Leary says the president stands to make gains, "He shares the values that we have found of most Americans." Zogby says there are some big differences that should be noted, "On the other hand to date, the president does not have majority support on the economy or health care or education."

1. And that is why registering and voting is so important
My first vote was for Jimmy Carter in the 1976 Democratic primary.

I have never failed to vote.

the last time this country was this divided was 1858... two years later a "liberal" was elected (from the POV of teh Whigs folks), and a year later we were in the midst of a civil war.

This is NOT good

7. who ya gonna unify with...youself?
as long as there are so many gullible and ignorant people in this country, unification will never be an option

The only thing that will ever unify the US is a major calamity (think of 9/11)

8. Half of the country's families probably doesn't have the additional income
to invest in the stock market or even a 401K. There are so many working poor families that live paycheck to paycheck and it's all they can do to make their rent or house payment, put food on the table, pay their utilities, car payment and taxes.

10. Beyond that, many people think of investments as gambling...
and they simply don't think it's right or they don't want to chance loosing what extra money they DO have, and seek more secure ways to protect their money (like CDs & savings accounts).

Do most Americans value lying, cheating, censorship, chronic drinking?

14. They are going to try to keep this 50:50 mythology alive
The GOP criminals need to keep the illusion alive that Bush is a contender or they will be hard pressed to pull off the voter theft like they did in 2000. I bet the Bush vs Gore race was not even close. Gore probably won by a landslide but the Crime Family, their media whores and the corrupt Supreme Court played their roles to a tee. Just like when they pretended Bush won three debates against Gore when he couldn't even answer ANY of the questions, never mind being unable to speak English.
