BAGHDAD (AFP) - The new US-created Iraqi army took in a second battalion as Washington transferred more power to Iraq (news - web sites)'s security forces, while insurgents mowed down two French nationals near the rebel town of Fallujah.
With just six months to go before the United States is due to hand over power to Iraqis, the country's two main Kurdish leaders, Massoud Barzani and Jalal Talabani, insisted on a federal system that will give Kurds self-rule.

Two French nationals, working for a private contractor, were killed and a third wounded in a drive-by shooting by "terrorists" near Fallujah in the province of Al-Anbar on Monday, a US general said.
