Bush plan lets illegal workers keep jobs
Bush plan lets illegal workers keep jobs

President Bush is set to present his immigration proposal Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- In what the White House is billing as an important speech on immigration policy, President Bush will unveil a plan Wednesday that would allow immigrants to enter the United States if they have jobs.

The proposal also is expected to put illegal workers already in the United States on a path toward legal status.

"There is an economic need, and it is important that we have an immigration policy that meets those economic needs," said White House press secretary Scott McClellan in a preview of the speech.

"America should be a welcoming society. We are a nation of immigrants, and our nation is better for it."

About 150 guests will be invited to the White House East Room to hear the address, including members of immigration groups and others interested in such policy, McClellan said.

He said the president has been working on a way "to match willing workers with willing employees."

1. Awesome idea
Bush aide: Millions of Americans are out of work. How are we going to solve this problem?

Bush: Hey, I've got an idea! Let's flood the market with illegal non-Americans! That'll provide even FEWER jobs for Americans!

Bush aide: BRILLIANT!

3. Repugs out here (CA) won't like this....
politics aside, though, I'm constantly reminded how particular this Admin is to a message: note the phrase, "willing workers with willing employees".

Remind you of "coalition of the willing"?

Simplistic and sure to be touted verbatim in the press.

10. If legislators, news commentators and heads of industry
lost their jobs to illegals instead of nannies, bricklayers and gardners, there would be NO problem with illegal immigration.
