6. Conspiracy size in the millions

and we are supposed to believe this. The reason conspiracy theories are so hard to sell is that the number of people all keeping the same secret gets so high so quickly.

When the OJ defense team was trying to sell the notion of a conspiracy by the LAPD to frame him, the number of people involved quickly got into the hundreds. Yet I talked to people who told me they believed OJ was innocent because his story could not be so consistent if he wasn't and they did not believe he could keep up the charade, all alone, for months without letting something slip. The same people were able to beleive that the entire LAPD, or at least large portions of it, were able to keep the secret of framing OJ.

The idea that the bush* administration and the entire media are conspiring to keep the truth of 9/11 quiet is also ridiculous because of the number of people involved. We have to believe that hundreds of people in the administration and at least thousands in the media know the truth but are concealing it.

It is common when discussing a conspiracy (here at DU and elsewhere) that someone will say that there is no way so many people could keep quiet for so long.

Ellsberg writes about "an apparatus of secrecy, built on effective procedures, practices, and career incentives, that permitted the president to arrive at and execute a secret foreign policy, to a degree that went far beyond what even relatively informed outsiders, including journalists and members of Congress, could imagine.

The process is in motion. Not one major media outlet has even mentioned the possibility of this happening.
