Move On.org's response to Hitler
ADS ATTACKED BY RNC CHAIRMAN
ARE NOT MOVEON.ORG VOTER FUND ADS

MoveOn.org Voter Fund Regrets Screening Process Allowed Ads to Slip Through

Statement by Wes Boyd, Founder of MoveOn.org Voter Fund:

The Republican National Committee and its chairman have falsely accused MoveOn.org of sponsoring ads on its website which compare President Bush to Adolf Hitler. The claim is deliberately and maliciously misleading.

During December the MoveOn.org Voter Fund invited members of the public to submit ads that purported to tell the truth about the President and his policies. More than 1,500 submissions from ordinary Americans came in and were posted on a web site, bushin30seconds.org, for the public to review.

None of these was our ad, nor did their appearance constitute endorsement or sponsorship by MoveOn.org Voter Fund. They will not appear on TV. We do not support the sentiment expressed in the two Hitler submissions. They were voted down by our members and the public, who reviewed the ads and submitted nearly 3 million critiques in the process of choosing the 15 finalist entries.

We agree that the two ads in question were in poor taste and deeply regret that they slipped through our screening process. In the future, if we publish or broadcast raw material, we will create a more effective filtering system.

Contrast this with the behavior of the RNC and its allies when supporters of President Bush used TV ads morphing the faces of Sens. Tom Daschle (D-SD) and Max Cleland (D-GA) into that of Osama Bin Laden during the 2002 Senate races.

Ok so it's one paragraph over the limit.....

10. The reality is that Bush has the same respect for human rights,
democracy, the rule of law that Hitler did.

Now, at this point in his administration Hitler wasn't gassing anyone either. It takes time and mass hypnosis. Bush has the hypnosis down cold, so all he needs is time.

If you doubt it find a single major policy issue where this administration has been truthful. It will creep you out if you look carefully, particularly if you consider that the lies are treated as secrets by the press.

25. From your position of "determination",...
you seem, to me, like a mirror-image of those (whom you passionately fight), and both those sides egregiously cast the past into both our present and our future. Neither position holds the patent, copyright or trademark on anyone's future, even though both apparently believe in their omnisence to do so. Neither of those mirror images progress me or humanity, in my humble opinion.

Tomorrow,...starts, right here, where we want it to be.

2. What they should have said it that the
representation that the ad was produced by them is a lie.

The analogy between Bush and Hitler is valid.

start illustrating to the public Bush's grandaddy's ties to the Nazi's? Why Prescott Bush was never brought up on treason charges for aiding the enemy is still beyond belief!

The commercials were not in bad taste in my opinion, they told the truth what those AMericans were feeling. I just lost a little respect for MoveOn.org. Yellow streak comes to mind.

11. I don't read this as an apology to repukes but
as a clarification which should have been made. I applaud their ability to tell their constituents when an error in judgment has been made...and that it was not their own ad.

19. Oh please
You want to tell me which comparison made between Hitler and Bush you disagree with?

It may fairly be said that Hitler and Nazi analogies are dramatically overused but the comparisons made spot on and pretty indisputable it seemed to me. Is Hitler some sort of sacred cow that cannot be invoked any longer? Why?

16. EXACTLY!
Those low-life scum of the earth repukes just can't handle the truth, can they? And the fact that they have the majority of Americans totally snookered and asleep at the switch does NOT bode well for us, I'm afraid.

35. You are confusing an apology...
with correcting a false impression wrought by the Republicans over this. If MoveOn endorsed the Hitler comparision then I could easily agree with you, but telling the world that the Bush to Hitler comparison was not sponsored by them is perfectly acceptable.

17. I don't get it....
Some people actually do see similarities between Bush and Hitler, thus the reason the ad was submitted to moveon.org in the first place. Moveon.org should have just clarified that the ad was not of their making and let their members decide if the ad was in poor taste or not through the voting process...not apologize for it to the RNC.

More people need to start standing up to the RNC propaganda machine.

18. Us progressives are such cowards
Move On is supposed to be one of the most stridently progressive websites on the net. Someone on the RNC barks a couple of times and MoveOn runs away yelping.

Glad I didn't send them my money.

The rules for the contest were that the ads met FCC broadcast standards. MoveOn should have defended the process and let the members vote.

22. A good ad
Must be a good ad. If it causes pause, if it causes people to ask: "is Bush like Hitler?" -- it's a good ad. If it causes the RNC to get it's panties in a bunch, it's a good ad.

Not the winning ad, and not produced by moveon--that's the spin stopper.

Sure, Bush is not Hitler. Fine. But not hard to imagine how someone made such an ad, such a link. How about countering with the BFEE Nazi links for one thing. How about the Gropenator admiration for the fuhrer. And sure, Bush doesn't know squat about history and the Nazis, but I bet Rove, Asscroft and some others do. Who's got that playbook? Have they borrowed anything?

Oh, right, could never happen here.

I say attack attack attack. Bush is clearly not Hitler, but it is something worth thinking about.

24. How is Bush NOT Hitler? Both use fear as a control factor, both
invaded countries on false pretenses for either personal or cronies financial benefit, both violated treaties, international law, and made their electoral process a joke.

Oh yeah. I forgot. Hitler had the balls to go fight in WWI. Also had some talent as a painter, and was well-read. Of course, he was also the worst mass-murderer in human history, but Bush has only been in one term.

Give him time.

30. You answered your own question
Actually, I'm not even sure that Hitler outdoes Mao or Stalin in total numbers, but he took mass murder to new lows as far as inhumanity.

Get back to me when * is even a shadow of that behavior.

There was lots more to him than the "final solution" he did not come out of nowhere to do that.

* IS A SHADOW OF THAT BEHAVIOR RIGHT NOW!

It is 1937 again, and we are letting it happen again. Don't you see?

Who think God appointed the pretzel nazi to run this country? How about the idiots who think Bushfwuck is just like Abe Lincoln? How about the shitheads who could only think on 9-11 ,"thank god shrub is running this country"?
They all need a good shot of Thorazine. Bush is two bit robber fondling crook not a Nietzan nightmare like Hitler , but the comparision makes more sense than a lot of the mainstream media crap being pedaled.

29. So he'snot Hitler
One has to wonder if he shares some genes. Great comparison by some ad maker! Call a spade a spade and not an effing shovel.
Wolfie even had to tongue lash the RNC Goon for keeping it up on their website for however long it was.
I had to wonder about Move-on, but once I heard it was a contest, then it was much adoo about nothing.
It seems like everything is Dean bashing and Shrub praising in the terrible press.

31. Amazing how it's okay for a Puke Pundit to compare Dems to Nazis
or Communists. Witness this New York Post column today.

Dean wants to muzzle his Democratic competitors, too. He believes the Democratic National Committee should shut them up. His followers try to intimidate other presidential aspirants by surrounding the cars delivering them to their rallies and chanting to drown out their speech. Of course, Dean denies any foreknowledge or blame.

These are the techniques employed by Hitler's Brownshirts. Had Goebbels enjoyed access to the internet, he would have used the same swarm tactics as Dean's Flannelshirts.

<snip>

In Dean's alternate reality, everything the Bush administration has done and might do is a failure, no matter the facts. The president's even responsible for Mad Cow Disease. It's Goebbels again: Just keep repeating the lies until the lies assume the force of truth.

<snip>

Listen to Dean's rhetoric, especially on security and international issues. He never offers specifics; it's all hocus-pocus. He knows how best to deal with terrorists. We voters from the humble Volk need to take it on trust. He understands how to employ our military more effectively - despite dodging the draft during the Vietnam War.

Dean's going to improve our intelligence system, too. How? If pressed, he may go so far as to mention HUMINT - a term he doesn't understand - or the need for more Arabic speakers. Great, Herr Howie.
