US says talk of strike against Iran is nonsense
By Sue Pleming and Arshad Mohammed

WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) - The State Department's Iraq coordinator said on Thursday that Washington is studying how to push back against Iran over its atomic program and its actions in Iraq, but dismissed talk of military action as nonsense.

Washington accuses Tehran of providing funds, arms and training to Iraqi Shi'ite militants, of trying to develop atomic weapons under the cover of a nuclear energy program and of supporting terrorism across the Middle East.

"We are examining how best to push back on these behaviors," said David Satterfield, the Iraq coordinator who recently became one of top U.S. diplomats on Iran policy.

The Bush administration is considering a range of unilateral actions against Iran, including imposing sanctions on the Quds force, a unit of its Revolutionary Guards Corps, senior U.S. officials have told Reuters.

Satterfield declined to provide details on future U.S. actions but said in an interview that U.S. President George W. Bush had "broad authorities in this regard."

1. Nonsense doesn't mean it isn't true though.
Diplomats are trained to pick their words very carefully.

5. Sure, now that the loose nukes have been exposed...
It'll be a while before they can secretly divert more atom bombs- too many eyes on the process now, and I doubt those soldiers who were ordered to leave the room will willingly do so a second time.

Don't cha just hate it when a genuine patriot walks into the room and blabs!

8. Of course it's not nonsence - the US won't rule it out.
In fact, it appears to be US policy to rule nothing out, ever. Even nuclear strikes are just another option among many.

15. Just a little reality check from the Bush administration.
The same administration that brought us the nonsense of aluminum centrifuge tubes, uranium yellow cake from Niger and mobile weapons labs.

Did I forget that the Iraqi reconstruction would be paid for through oil revenues?

Geesh. :eyes:

On a more serious note though, could it be that this press statement is prelude to some startling revelation or false flag regarding Iran? George Bush could maintain that he had chosen a path of peace and it was the "new" actions that forced him to resort to military means.

16. Then why not deny the "nonsense"?
By the way, Messrs. Cheney and Lieberman seem to think that running a few sorties over Iran is just the ticket. Of course, neither of those gentlemen has a dog in the fight, so to speak, so they're real aggressive about sending other people's kids off to fight and die for the greater glory of their personal bottom lines.
